Dragon Ball DAIMA was a great anime and throwback to the original Dragon Ball, but as the last piece of the franchise written by Akira Toriyama himself, DAIMA brought with it a lot of problems. Between retconning how Kibito Kai defused after Dragon Ball Z and introducing Super Saiyan 4 Goku (even though Goku tells Beerus Super Saiyan 3 is his strongest form), Dragon Ball's canon has never been messier. Unfortunately, the hyped-up introduction of Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta introduced a major DBZ plot hole. In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Vegeta's strongest transformation is Super Saiyan 2.
It's Time Dragon Ball Makes Its Comeback In 2026
Dragon Ball might be making a comeback in 2026. Fans hope the anime or the manga returns.
This is a major plot that Master Roshi even comments on after Beerus slaps Bulma during the movie. Now that Dragon Ball DAIMA has introduced Super Saiyan 3 Vegea, one of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods' most important scenes no longer makes sense. This wouldn't be a big deal if DAIMA were just a Dragon Ball GT-esque sequel, but both Dragon Ball DAIMA and Dragon Ball Super were both written by Akira Toriyama. The only way to fix these plot holes is if the Dragon Ball Super remake becomes a reality and rewrites Battle of Gods to incorporate everything Toriyama retconned in Dragon Ball DAIMA.
Dragon Ball DAIMA's Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta Retcon Created a Massive Plot Hole
Vegeta turns Super Saiyan 3 for the first time in Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 12. Notably, Bulma reveals that Vegeta unlocked Super Saiyan 3 by training in secret on Earth – an especially dubious claim since Super Saiyan 3 Goku's Power Level was strong enough to be felt across the universe, but that's beside the point.
This is a massive problem as far as the Dragon Ball timeline is concerned since Dragon Ball DAIMA is canonically set before Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, and the rest of Dragon Ball Super. By all accounts, Vegeta should have had access to Super Saiyan 3 at the start of Dragon Ball Super, but everything in Battle of Gods indicates Super Saiyan 2 was Vegeta's strongest form at the time.
Vegeta's Rage Boost in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods No Longer Makes Sense
About halfway through Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Beerus slaps Bulma. Watching his wife get hurt triggers a massive rage boost in Vegeta where he turns into his strongest form – Super Saiyan 2 – and actually becomes stronger than Super Saiyan 3 Goku. This isn't speculation either. Master Roshi outright comments on the fact that SSJ2 Vegeta has surpassed SSJ3 Goku, and Vegeta even manages to make Beerus bleed, whereas Goku failed to so much as land a blow on the God of Destruction in their earlier fight.
Vegeta’s 7 Strongest Super Saiyan Forms in the Dragon Ball Franchise, Ranked
Vegeta doesn't have as many transformations as Goku, but that's simply because the Prince of All Saiyans doesn't need them.
Akira Toriyama often uses Master Roshi as his mouthpiece for establishing martial arts superiority, so for Roshi to comment and confirm SSJ2 Vegeta's strength is a big deal. Unfortunately, this scene no longer makes sense in a post-Dragon Ball DAIMA world. Watching Beerus slap Bulma unlocks all of Vegeta's raw power. He is instinctively triggering his strongest form in a state of pure rage. If Vegeta had access to Super Saiyan 3, he would have turned Super Saiyan 3. It doesn't make sense for Vegeta to hold back his strongest form and tape into SSJ2, especially since Dragon Ball DAIMA shows that SSJ3 Vegeta doesn't suffer from the same Ki drain problems SSJ3 Goku does.
The Dragon Ball Super Remake Has to Fix Battle of Gods & Dragon Ball's Canon
At this point, the only way to fix this Battle of Gods plot hole is for the rumored Dragon Ball Super remake to take Dragon Ball DAIMA's new plot points and make them canon to Dragon Ball Super, as well. If Beerus slaps Bulma and Vegeta doesn't turn Super Saiyan 3, this means that either Dragon Ball DAIMA is non-canon, or that Dragon Ball DAIMA and Dragon Ball Super are officially set in alternate timelines.
On top of making Vegeta turn Super Saiyan 3 against Beerus, the Dragon Ball Super remake needs to have Goku use Super Saiyan 4 against Beerus. As of the end of Dragon Ball DAIMA, Goku can turn Super Saiayn 4 without Neva's help, so there's no reason for him to stop at SSJ3 during his first fight with Beerus – let alone tell the God of Destruction that Super Saiyan 3 is his strongest form when it clearly isn't. Dragon Ball's continuity is currently a mess, and only a DBS remake can fix it.
