This post contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima.

Dragon Ball is arguably the most popular anime in the world. It is based on the manga of the same name written by the late Akira Toriyama, who many consider to be the father of modern shonen. Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball was revolutionary, and it changed the way shonen manga were written.

When the Dragon Ball anime aired, it left viewers awestruck. They couldn't believe the quality that was put on display. Since Dragon Ball, there have been plenty of other anime projects that are set in the same universe.

Akira Toriyama's Editor Did Not Like Dragon Ball Daima

The most recent Dragon Ball anime project was Daima. It was announced in 2023, and immediately there was a sense of excitement among fans. After all, there hadn't been any new projects since Dragon Ball Super, which was released in 2019. It was revealed that Dragon Ball Daima would air in October 2024.

Initially, the project was supposed to be devoid of any input from Akira Toriyama. But with time, the author became more and more involved, eventually reaching the point where he became responsible for the story, characters, world, and several other things. It was later disclosed that Daima took six years to develop. The show was made for both young people and grown-ups. Dragon Ball: Daima had a different direction than any of the recent projects. Instead of presenting Goku and the rest of the cast as adults, the anime decided to revert them to their younger selves.

Fans appreciated the idea, but a lot of them felt that the anime was bland. Once again, it solely focused on the action, leaving out the story. Recently, Akira Toriyama's editor, Kazuhiko Torishima, spoke about Dragon Ball Daima. He bluntly said that Dragon Ball Daima was a trash anime. His statement has certainly shocked a lot of fans, but some actually agree with it. It's likely that he felt repelled by Daima trying to emulate Dragon Ball.

A New Dragon Ball Anime About Vegeta Would Be Amazing

In addition to his comment about Daima, Kazuhiko Torishima also spoke about Dragon Ball Super. He said it would have been better to make a story about Vegeta. Normally, the sentence wouldn't mean much, but things are different as Torishima is not an ordinary person. He served as Akira Toriyama's editor, and the two worked together on the Dragon Ball series. So, it's quite clear that Torishima is an authority on the series.

After Daima ended, there has been no mention of a new series. But Torishima's words may have given the higher-ups at Toei Animation an idea of which direction the series should head into next. Currently, there has been no indication that Toei Animation or any other studio is working on a Vegeta-centric series. So, aside from Torishima's comments, there is nothing that indicates what the new Dragon Ball project could be about.

However, if Toei Animation does decide to create another anime, then it should certainly be based on Vegeta. Most fans agree that Vegeta is among the best Dragon Ball characters, and his growth from a vain villain into a prideful warrior is nothing short of phenomenal. It will be interesting to see the events of the previous Dragon Ball series from Vegeta's perspective.

Furthermore, the anime could give fans a better idea of what Vegeta is like with his family. All things considered, if there is a character who is worthy of having a manga/anime that's entirely focused on him, it's Vegeta. Toei Animation has an exceptionally talented staff that is capable of producing a hit anime series, so it won't be a problem for them to produce an excellent adaptation.

It is worth reiterating that at the moment, there is no anime in production, and all of it is merely speculation. But hopefully, there will be at least some new update regarding the future of Dragon Ball in the coming months.
