Summary

  • Mastered Ultra Instinct is Goku's strongest form, offering unbeatable defense and powerful offense.
  • Vegeta's Ultra Ego, fueled by damage, has impressive offensive power and potential for mastery.
  • A fight between Mastered Ultra Instinct and Mastered Ultra Ego could be evenly matched in strength.

In Dragon Ball Super, the power scaling of the franchise has hit an all-time high. With the introduction of Gods, Angels, and the concept of the multiverse, newer and even more powerful characters have entered the fray, requiring the heroes to unlock even greater levels of power that allow them to stop such threats from spreading too much destruction in their wake.

In order to be this strong, Goku and Vegeta have both unlocked Divine Transformations that work on the inherent techniques of the Angels and Destroyer Gods of Dragon Ball respectively. However, there are currently a lot of questions regarding their strength, particularly when going up against one another. So, let's go over how a fight between Mastered Ultra Instinct and Mastered Ultra Ego could look.

Story Arc

Tournament of Power Arc

The strongest version of Goku's Divine Transformation is far more difficult to pin down than it seems. In the Tournament of Power, Goku initially achieved an incomplete version of this form that had all the defensive capabilities but lacked sufficient offense and also burned far too much Ki to be used sustainably. Then, by the end of the tournament, he unlocked the mastered version that worked far better on all fronts.

However, in the later arcs, it was explained by Whis that although this is the epitome of Martial Arts prowess that one can achieve, there are degrees of its accuracy that vary between users. So, Goku has been hard at work trying to perfect it, reaching a far more refined mastered state in the Moro arc, but then again, using a 'True' version in the Granolah arc that treats Ultra Instinct more like a technique than a transformation. This version worked best against Gas, but in the spar against Beast Gohan, he reverted to the Mastered Ultra Instinct form.

So, as of now, this is what is believed to be Goku's strongest version of Ultra Instinct. Not only does this have the greatest defense in the series due to the body's autonomous movements, but it also has incredible offense, making Goku far stronger and faster than ever before. Moreover, this version makes him incredibly durable as well, since his muscles become so firm that his opponents can break their hands upon hitting him.

The reason why Mastered Ultra Instinct would triumph over Vegeta's form is mostly due to familiarity and experience. Goku has been using Ultra Instinct for far longer and has taken his time with mastering it, so he could likely stay in the state longer and use it more efficiently. Furthermore, Ultra Instinct avoids all damage, keeping the user unhurt the entire time, which is the opposite of Ultra Ego's gimmick, which requires taking damage to get stronger, which simply isn't sustainable.

Although Daima really picked up the pace by the latter half of the series, the finale was a letdown for many, so let's see why this is!

The Case For Mastered Ultra Ego

How Vegeta Would Win This Engagement

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Super, Chapter 74, "Vegeta vs. Granolah"

Story Arc

Granolah Saga

On the other hand, there is Vegeta's Ultra Ego form, born from using the inherent technique of the Gods of Destruction. After failing to achieve the fabled Ultra Instinct state during and after the Tournament of Power, Vegeta realized that his fighting style and personality simply weren't compatible with a technique that requires the user to shut down all thought to perform, so he sought to reach the same level of power through his own means.

This is where Beerus informed him of the state that the Destroyer Gods use, and, subsequently, began to train him in the use of the Hakai technique that allows them to destroy anything from the size of a rock to an entire planet. Vegeta would understand this technique and later infuse it into his own Divine Transformation, which allowed him to utilize the power of a God of Destruction. And so, Ultra Ego made its debut against Granolah.

Damage is nothing but fuel for me. Do you know what that means? I'm only getting stronger!

Unlike Goku's Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego was not even close to being perfected in any sense, since his going up against Granolah was the first and only time Vegeta has used the form. However, despite this lack of experience, many argue that he performed even better than Goku did with his Mastered Ultra Instinct. This is because Goku was caught off-guard by Granolah's true speed after fighting his clone, whereas Ultra Ego Vegeta forced Granolah to use 100% of his power, which was about to kill them both.

Now, in their current state, Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku would very likely defeat Vegeta's regular Ultra Ego form. However, if mastered, it may not be that simple, since the regular version of Ultra Ego arguably did better against the same opponent. This shows the sheer offensive power of this form, so a Mastered Ultra Ego would be even stronger and would likely erase its drawbacks, particularly by strengthening Vegeta's body like Ultra Instinct does, so that the damage doesn't affect him. The most likely case, however, is that Mastered Ultra Instinct and Mastered Ultra Ego would be on the same level.
