One of the most identifiable aspects of the Dragon Ball story is the emphasis that is placed on transformations. Often, many of the most pivotal and important moments in the series either happen because of a transformation or they result in one, which is mostly manifested through the Saiyan main characters. Because of this, forms have become integral to the franchise's identity.

For the majority of the runtime of Dragon Ball Z, there was a pretty standard line of transformations for the Saiyans after Goku unlocked the original Super Saiyan state. However, in Dragon Ball Super, this slowly changed, with most of the main Saiyans getting their own unique transformations that played on their individual strengths. The Ultimate Form Made Gohan The Strongest Warrior At The End of Z

After the birth of Super Buu, the heroes were in a desperate situation since none could take on the deadly powers of the villain. However, due to his time in Otherworld, Gohan got his full potential unlocked by Old Kai, turning him into the most powerful Saiyan that fans had ever seen up to that point, even greater than Super Saiyan 3 Goku. The reason for this is that Gohan's incredible power comes directly from his latent and unmatched potential, and with the Ultimate state, all of this potential was unleashed to make him stronger than ever before.

Super Saiyan 4 Had Been Kept A Secret Until The End Of the Daima Arc

Although this form was first shown in Dragon Ball GT, it was only made canon recently; in the last few episodes of Dragon Ball Daima. However, the truth behind this power is largely unexplained, since Goku's first time going Super Saiyan 4 only happened after Neva gave him some extra energy, but he later explained that he had already unlocked it even earlier on his own. Due to its appearance, it can be assumed that, like its GT counterpart, Super Saiyan 4 calls forth the unmatched strength of a Great Ape while retaining the speed and power of the Saiyan.

Super Saiyan Rage is a confusing transformation, particularly because it seemingly came out of nowhere. Upon being beaten by Goku Black and Zamasu, Future Trunks eventually awoke a form far beyond his Super Saiyan 2 state that was born from pure, unbridled rage, and was so strong that it was able to match up to both these powerful villains at once. Though many would expect Super Saiyan 3 to follow up Super Saiyan 2, Trunks instead unlocked this powerful form that got an even further boost by borrowing others' energies, similar to a spirit bomb, that let him slice open Merged Zamasu.

Super Saiyan Rosé Was One Of The Most Striking Transformations Ever

• An evil version of Super Saiyan Blue.

Goku Black is remembered as one of the greatest antagonists in the entire Dragon Ball franchise, and a massive reason for this was his impeccable design. This has never been clearer than when he turned into his Super Saiyan Rosé form. Since he had taken over Goku's body, this form was the result of him turning into a Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan, or Super Saiyan Blue, while mixing the God Ki with his own energy as an evil Kai. The result was a striking transformation that can most easily be described as Goku Black's version of Super Saiyan Blue.

The Full Power Super Saiyan May Have The Greatest Strength Of Them All

When it comes to potential, no Saiyan can match up to Broly's insane genetic gifts. Although Gohan comes close, it should be noted that Broly had only ever fought Paragus and was never allowed to awaken his Super Saiyan form, so in his first serious fights against Goku and Vegeta, his unreal potential shone through massively. Here, he unlocked a Full Power Super Saiyan state due to how overwhelming his strength was, but he could never control it. However, in the manga, he has finally managed to do so, making him one of Universe 7's strongest warriors.

As if just one unique form wasn't enough, Gohan unlocked a long-awaited transformation that finally brought him to the level of Goku and Vegeta. Through Beast, he was able to make full use of his hybrid-Saiyan potential that multiplied his speed and overall strength to the level of Goku and Vegeta's Divine Transformations, finally making this fan-favorite character as central to the story as he once was. Despite the form not at all being unique in terms of application, Gohan now comfortably rests as one of the series' strongest characters.

It has been stated that the single greatest Martial Arts technique in the entire multiverse is Ultra Instinct, and this makes sense as well considering how it is the inherent state of being for the most powerful race in existence. Despite this, it is a technique that can be learned by anyone, but is so difficult to master that even the Gods of Destruction have been unable to do so. However, Goku, being the Martial Arts genius that he is, was able to unlock this form and use it masterfully in the Tournament of Power.
