The first time the Astra Awards had a separate category for anime was in 2024, and now, several popular anime titles are in the running for the 2025 iteration of the event. Dragon Ball DAIMA, which has been enjoying a prestigious week after also being nominated for the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards in the "Favourite Cartoon" category, is in the running for the "Best Anime Series" category.
Dragon Ball DAIMA finds itself amid stiff competition, with the likes of Solo Leveling Season 2 – Arise from the Shadow, the second season of The Apothecary Diaries, the third season of Fire Force, Shinichiro Watanabe's Lazarus, and of course, DANDADAN.

Anime Is Well-Represented
In addition to the "Best Anime Series" category, the medium also had a number of nominations in the category of "Best Lead Voice-Over Performance", with Aleks Le, voice of Solo Leveling protagonist Sung Jinwoo whom we had the honour of interviewing alongside the series' ADR Director Caitlin Glass, nominated alongside legendary voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch, known for playing Ichigo Kurosaki in BLEACH but is now being hailed for his performance as Dante in Castlevania showrunner Adi Shankar's Devil May Cry, and Stephanie Nadolny, legacy voice of Kid Goku and Gohan in several iterations of Dragon Ball, who was absent from the franchise for over a decade but returned to voice Goku - Mini in Akira Toriyama's final offering to the world, Dragon Ball DAIMA.
Anime also has great representatives in the category of Best Supporting Voice-Over Performance, in which the aforementioned Caitlin Glass is nominated for her role as Nefertari Vivi in One Piece, Justin Briner, best known for his performances as Midoriya Izuku (Hero Name: Deku | Quirk: One For All) in My Hero Academia, is nominated for his performance as Sung Jinwoo's right-hand man, Yoo Jinho in Solo Leveling Season 2 and finally, Xolo Mariduena is nominated for his performances as Heisuke Mashimo in SAKAMOTO DAYS, which happens to also be Mariduena's first-ever anime role (he has several roles in western cartoons).
The 2025 Astra Awards are set to take place on June 10. Dragon Ball DAIMA, DANDADAN, Solo Leveling, The Apothecary Diaries and Fire Force are all available to watch on Crunchyroll, while Lazarus is available on Adult Swim.
