Originally released on January 16, 2020, it's hard to believe Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is still getting major DLC six years later to the day. The game's most recent Dragon Ball DAIMA DLC, Adventure Through the Demon Realm Part 2 wraps up the rest of Dragon Ball DAIMA's story. The expansion pack has been very faithful to the anime so far, but Part 2 makes some interesting additions to the anime's story, including both a new ending and new information about Super Saiyan 4 Goku.
5 Dragon Ball Super Characters Stronger Than Ultra Instinct Goku
As of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Ultra Instinct Goku is weaker than his rival, his son, and even the series' next main villain.
In Dragon Ball DAIMA Episode 20, Goku heavily implies he unlocked Super Saiyan 4 after his fight with Kid Buu at the end of Dragon Ball Z. Goku says, "Buu was really strong, so I trained a lot after fightin' him. I wasn't sure if it would work, though." The only "it" Goku could realistically be referring to here is Super Saiyan 4 itself, but Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has outright retconned this piece of information with its new post-credits scene. Goku did not turn Super Saiyan 4 for the first time until Neva helped him.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Confirms Goku Didn't Unlock Super Saiyan 4 Until Dragon Ball DAIMA's Final Battle
In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's new final cutscene for its Dragon Ball DAIMA DLC, Goku tells Panzy, "This might sound crazy, but I JUST got used to being tiny. I mean, I made it to Super Saiyan 4 and everything..." Goku's new dialogue can only mean he never turned Super Saiyan 4 before his battle with Gomah, which recontextualizes his wording in the Dragon Ball DAIMA anime. Goku being unsure about Super Saiyan 4 working is no longer about it being strong enough to stop Gomah, but him being powerful enough to trigger the form at all.
Dragon Ball Officially Reveals Top 21 Most Popular Characters in Franchise
As Dragon Ball The One moves into its final round, only 21 out of 212 characters remain.
This makes more sense with how Dragon Ball handles signature transformations. Although it's not unusual for Saiyans to unlock Super Saiyan forms off-screen (in fact, most SSJ transformations were actually unlocked off-screen), the major forms always happen for the first time on-screen. Goku and Gohan unlock Super Saiyan 1 and Super Saiyan 2 respectively for the first time during their final battles with Frieza and Cell. Dragon Ball GT makes a big show of Goku unlocking that form of Super Saiyan 4.
While Super Saiyan Blue is unlocked off-screen in Resurrection F, Goku triggers Super Saiyan God and Ultra Instinct for the first time in front of audiences. Making it clear that Goku only turned Super Saiyan 4 with Neva's help raises the stakes of Dragon Ball DAIMA's final battle and gives the transformation more gravitas than it simply being something Goku tapped into himself. That said, the fact Goku can just casually trigger Super Saiyan 4 after becoming an adult again poses some issues.
A Dragon Ball Super Remake Will Have To Reconcile Super Saiyan 4 Goku in a New Battle of Gods Saga
Assuming Dragon Ball Super does return in 2026 with an official anime remake, the series will need to rewrite major sections of the Battle of Gods story arc. In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Goku explicitly tells Beerus that Super Saiyan 3 is his absolute strongest form. Likewise, a rage-boosted Vegeta only turns Super Saiyan 2 after Beerus slaps Bulma. These two events totally contradict Dragon Ball DAIMA's story where Goku and Vegeta both have access to their own versions of Super Saiyan 4 and Super Saiyan 3.
Dragon Ball: 7 Strongest Saiyan Techniques
Saiyans don't mess around in battle. These techniques can take almost anyone out.
If a Dragon Ball Super remake does release, Battle of Gods will be a test to see if DBS and Dragon Ball DAIMA are set in the same continuity. If Goku fights Beerus and only turns Super Saiyan 3, this will confirm that Dragon Ball DAIMA actually takes place in an alternate continuity to Dragon Ball Super. This would heavily muddy up the series' timeline and potentially slot Dragon Ball Super into Dragon Ball GT levels of being non-canon, as Akira Toriyama only wrote outlines for Super, whereas he personally wrote Dragon Ball DAIMA himself.
