Most fans who engage with the long-running Dragon Ball franchise have a handful of favorite characters, but many also have a list of those they just can't stand. With hundreds of personalities appearing in Akira Toriyama's landmark series, tempers often flare when popular characters are criticized by parts of the fanbase, and jokes fly when often-forgotten heroes are touted as personal faves. Finding common ground isn't always easy in such a huge community. Still, there are a handful of characters that the large majority have simultaneously agreed to hate when it comes to Dragon Ball.

8 Best Characters Who Have Appeared In Every Dragon Ball Series, Ranked

The massive cast of Dragon Ball is constantly growing. Of the franchise's many characters, a handful have stuck around from the very beginning.

When speaking to fans and engaging with the Dragon Ball-dedicated sections of social media, these characters often pop up as examples of what ruined the series, with the entries ranging from annoying to pointless. Opinions will always vary, but many viewers feel that these additions to the cast harmed the franchise as a whole.

Champa

First appearing in Dragon Ball Super, Champa is the God of Destruction of Universe 6 and the brother of Beerus, the God of Destruction of Universe 7. The two are sworn rivals, and much like his brother, Champa is painfully confident in his power while also entirely unconcerned about rules and the pain he may cause others. He absolutely refuses to be on the losing side, even if it means resorting to less savory tactics to get his way. While plenty of characters in the franchise could be called petty and underhanded, Champa takes it to an entirely new level.

Following Champa's introduction, countless fans took to the internet to vent about the character, criticizing his childish behavior and frequent tantrums given his lofty position as a God of Destruction. While the rather polite Beerus seems to fit his station, his more lazy brother seems to exist more on the side of comic relief, despite his relatively impressive power level.

Mr. Satan

When he first appeared in Dragon Ball Z, many fans thought Mr. Satan was simply a small side character that would only be allotted a brief amount of screen time. Unfortunately, this wasn't quite the case. Videl's father and, at one time, the World Martial Arts Champion, continues to pop up, even recently starring in Dragon Ball Daima, much to some viewers' frustration. Wealthy and famous, Mr. Satan is wildly cocky and egotistical, calling himself "the Hero who defeated Cell" to pick up women after his wife's death, which, understandably, caused a bit of a falling out with his daughter. Strong as he may be to most humans, he boasts none of the powers of the Z Fighters.

While portions of the fanbase appreciate Mr. Satan's inclusion as a comic relief character, social media is filled with frustrated posts about the so-called 'Master Handsome,' with many fans still disgusted that he took credit for saving the world during the Cell Saga. He redeems himself to some extent during the Buu Saga, but his annoying personality and poor morals haven't made him popular with the community.

Broly

First appearing in the 1993 film Dragon Ball Z: Broly — The Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly's name is thrown around a lot in the fandom, with the character becoming more polarizing over time. One of the Legendary Super Saiyans who appears every thousand years, the character's creation came about after screenwriter Takao Koyama was inspired to create a more powerful Saiyan villain after watching Future Trunks transform into a Third Grade Super Saiyan during the Perfect Cell Saga in Dragon Ball Z.

A vocal portion of the Dragon Ball fanbase has long touted Broly as the most powerful character in the franchise since he was first introduced, frustrating other sections of the community. Others dislike his meathead personality, while the vast majority point to Broly's one-dimensional writing as being the largest issue. His lackluster backstory and single-minded focus on defeating Goku have left many fans hoping to see him left in the past. However, new evidence implies that Broly's influence may be felt in the upcoming game Dragon Ball: Age 1000.

Zeno

The supreme ruler of the Multiverse and its most powerful being, Grand Zeno, also known as the Omni-King, doesn't quite look the part, and viewers were quick to notice. First appearing in Dragon Ball Super, Zeno is known for being largely indifferent about life, destroying universes on a whim, and also showing little sympathy for his peers. Wise as he may be, the Lord of Everything quickly rubbed fans the wrong way, giggling as he eliminates millions of lives in the blink of an eye. Overpowered characters are nothing new in Dragon Ball, but when even the Gods of Destruction fear you, it's a little frustrating for the community.

Zeno's goofy design has earned him a few fans in the community, with some noting that the small character reminds them of a younger Dragon Ball audience as a whole—just people who want to see some neat fights and not worry too much about the plot. Generally, viewers are frustrated with his childlike persona and OP powers, and would largely prefer a more complex character to take his place.

Chi-Chi

Chi-Chi wasn't entirely disliked during her early appearances in Dragon Ball, but that changed after she married Goku. The daughter of the Ox-King and the princess of Fire Mountain was once shy and sweet, and while those traits may exist somewhere deep inside, her personality in Dragon Ball Z came off as overbearing, as she constantly nags Goku and berates Gohan for taking part in his training. Surely, the death of Goku and Piccolo's kidnapping of Gohan had a major impact on her, but fans have long felt that her yelling hit a little too close to home. As kids, who wanted to hear a mom being a typical helicopter parent when Dragon Ball was meant to be a fun source of escapism?

Although she may mean well, Chi-Chi's feisty personality and emotional outbursts have long been a source of irritation for the Dragon Ball fanbase. The community hoped that newer releases would see her tiger mom tendencies disappear, but this hasn't been the case. Throughout Dragon Ball Super, she constantly nags Goku to get a job, and her cliché writing and stereotypical housewife persona have led many to criticize Toriyama, stating that the author did a poor job of writing female characters in general. Chi-Chi, however, remains the most grating of the bunch.

Babidi

As far as villains go, Babidi holds a special place of contempt in the fandom's collective heart. The secondary antagonist of the Majin Buu Saga did manage to turn Vegeta evil, which eventually led to the Saiyan's noble sacrifice, but this is seen by many as his only redeeming action. His IQ is laughably low, his listening comprehension is zero, and his character design is lacking, as his massive ego and tiny stature don't exactly line up. Babidi's complicated plans rarely work, and his hubris is his downfall, as he relies on magic to make up for everything he lacks.

Releasing Buu without being fully able to control him was a monumentally stupid decision, and fans quickly picked up on the fact that Bibidi could have achieved his goals in other ways. Maybe his character was created to deliberately be dogpiled on by the community, but that doesn't make having to listen to him any more bearable.

Ribrianne

Ribrianne is strong, but strong doesn't equate to good, even in the Dragon Ball franchise. A warrior from Universe 2 and the leader of the Kamikaze Fireballs who first appeared in Dragon Ball Super, the female warrior proved her mettle during her fight with Vegeta, during which she successfully overpowered him for a brief time after transforming into her less attractive self. Her magical girl aesthetic was a breath of fresh air and garnered Ribrianne a few fans, but it's her personality and obsession with love that have led her to be widely disliked by viewers.

Dragon Ball Super's power scaling means that the series' forms are leagues stronger than anything seen in Dragon Ball Z, & are only getting stronger.

It quickly becomes apparent that Ribrianne is obsessed with love, praising the emotion for giving her the strength to win any battle. Before each fight, she breaks into a lengthy monologue that many fans would rather not hear, and most of her lines consist of platitudes like "you are without love" or "behold my power of love," which quickly get on people's nerves. The amount of screentime Ribrianne was given seemed excessive for a gag character. It's best not to overstay ones welcome.
