The characters of the Dragon Ball franchise have gone down as some of the most beloved and iconic in the entire anime genre. Over the years, these characters have firmly placed themselves among the most memorable in the entire industry, often going hand-in-hand with some of the greatest moments that fans of the art form have ever seen.

Because of this, such a rich cast of heroes and villains will naturally draw some ire among fans. Oftentimes, this negativity is justified, but there are a few Dragon Ball characters that are definitely over-hated for very small reasons, so in this article, let's go over those in the story who don't really deserve the hate.

Gohan's Character Arc Rubbed Some Fans The Wrong Way

Matured Into An Adult

During the Cell Saga of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan was quickly ingrained into fans' minds as one of the greatest characters of all time. However, his journey in the Buu Saga and later on into most of Super rubbed many the wrong way, since he largely abandoned his fighting days, instead choosing to pursue a life as a non-combatant who just wanted to be a scholar.

However, it should be noted that, even in the Cell Saga, Gohan hated fighting despite being the strongest. He just knew it was something he had to do, which was further compounded by how much he actually wanted to live a normal life. Of course, he is back in the limelight as one of the main fighters of the series, so fans have begun to change their minds about him.

Videl Tends To Get A Lot Of Hate From The Fandom

A Misunderstood Character

Admittedly, Videl was quite a divisive character once she made her debut in the series. She was always on Gohan's back to train her how to fly and to fight properly, which rubbed fans the wrong way and carried their disappointment with her once Super began as well.

However, Videl's role in the story quickly shifted to being a mother who put her fighting and combat days behind her. In the current setting, she has taken a back role in the story, but her support for Gohan and her upbeat personality have definitely warranted her as a good character.

Goku's Aloof Nature Tends To Draw Criticism

The Main Character

As the main character of the Dragon Ball franchise, Goku is one of the most beloved and recognizable faces in the anime industry. Despite this, he has received a fair amount of criticism in his time, mostly because of his aloof nature and how he tends to put having a great battle above everything else, even to the detriment of others.

However, it should be noted that Goku has always been like this. While he did have his fair share of silly moments in Dragon Ball Z, many of his more famous ones always had logic behind them, with him giving Cell a Sensu Bean particularly coming to mind. All in all, Goku is a Martial Arts genius and his absent-minded nature at times is just for a funny gag now and then.

Chi-Chi Has Always Been An Incredibly Loving Wife

By Goku's Side From The Start

As a character, Chi-Chi is not everyone's cup of tea. This is because she has always had an incredibly strong personality, which can be seen with her loud outbursts and scolding of the rest of her family. However, the best aspects of her character are layered below this tough and off-putting exterior.

Everything considered, Chi-Chi is one of the most loyal and loving wives that one could ask for. Sure, she is hard on Gohan due to her instance of him becoming a scholar, but much of that is because she wants him to have a good and peaceful life away from the fighting. Plus, even years after Goku's death, she chose to wait for him, making her the perfect partner for the protagonist.

Yamcha Is Actually Just A Really Chill Dude

The Punching Bag of the Story

For the longest time, Yamcha has remained the resident punching bag of the main cast of Dragon Ball. Though he never really grew in significance or strength past the Saiyan Saga, he has always played somewhat of a background role in the story, though this was more of him being the punchline of jokes rather than having a meaningful part of an arc.

However, looking at him now and seeing his arc in Super, one can't help but feel happy for him. Yamcha doesn't really punch above his weight anymore and has fully embraced his life as a baseball player, despite still being one of the most powerful humans around. His willingness to help his friends despite the gap in power is admirable, making Yamcha one of the chillest characters in the series.
