Ever since the events of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero concluded, fans have caught a glimpse of why Gohan is now considered one of the most powerful mortals in the entire multiverse. With the awakening of his Beast form, he has comfortably put himself at the same level as Goku and Vegeta in their Divine states, though he achieved this through his unparalleled potential alone.

In these respects, Gohan exists on a level of his own as a Saiyan whose potential allows him to reach the strength of those far greater than him with just a fraction of the effort. However, he isn't the only Saiyan with otherworldly power in Dragon Ball, as there is one character who everyone believes will be able to surpass him due to his insane potential. So, in this article, let's take a look at why Broly may eventually surpass Gohan.

Broly's Potential May Just Be Greater Than Even Gohan's Latent Power

A True Prodigy

First Appearance

Dragon Ball Super: Broly

Debut Date

December 14, 2018

Ever since his very first appearance in the Dragon Ball franchise as a whole, Broly set himself apart as a true freak of nature. Even before he was made canon, he was defined as this incredible powerhouse who was born with anomalous power that made him stronger than all of the Z-Fighters together, which could be seen by how he was able to beat them all to a pulp at the same time.

However, this was all non-canon material, and it wasn't until the exceptional Dragon Ball Super: Broly film that this beloved character would officially be brought into the canon of the series. Just like his non-canon counterpart, the official version of the character was an absolute powerhouse who was able to take on Goku and Vegeta simultaneously, with the heroes being in their Super Saiyan Blue states and Broly not even having unlocked Super Saiyan at that point.

Even if we do ignore the previous data, Broly's latent abilities are quite remarkable.

Broly's entire life was incredibly hard and tragic, as he was kicked out of his planet due to the jealousy of King Vegeta, forcing him and his father to spend decades in the frigid world of Vampa. However, this, alongside his already incredible potential from birth, served as the perfect conditions to make him into one of the universe's most powerful characters. Eventually, Broly and Paragus were recruited by Frieza in order to defeat Goku and Vegeta for good, in an incredible battle that showed just how impressive Broly's latent potential truly was.

Eventually, Broly would begin to lose control of his powers since he had never really used them much to their full extent before, because he never really needed to. Due to this, and Frieza's assassination of his father, Broly's mind broke, forcing him to go Super Saiyan, which left Goku and Vegeta's God Ki transformations in the dust. He became so strong that they needed to fuse into Gogeta to defeat Broly for good.

The events of this film showed that Broly's strength was beyond anything that the heroes had ever come across before, eclipsing even Jiren. The reason why a large contingent of fans believe that his potential is even greater than Gohan's is because Broly never got the training that Gohan did, so he always remained at a base level until his meteoric growth in his battles against Goku and Vegeta. Even without any formal training with someone on his level, Broly managed to perform better than anybody else had against the heroes.

The real thing that separates Gohan and Broly is the fact that Broly has never gotten any proper training, so he could never hone his insane potential as well as Gohan did. Sure, both of them are known as warriors who owe much of their power to their potential, but once Broly gets as good a control over his power as Gohan has, he will almost surely become the greatest warrior among the Z-Fighters, and even the multiverse.

What The Future Could Hold For Broly And Gohan In The Multiverse

The Greatest Potential In Dragon Ball

  • Broly and Gohan both have the potential to be the greatest warriors in the multiverse.

The way things stand at the current moment, Beast Gohan is marinally stronger than Broly's Full Power Super Saiyan form. However, this isn't in a contest of brute strength and power, since there are few characters in the multiverse who can compete with the Legendary Super Saiyan, but, in truth, this has to do with Gohan's experience and control over his power that Broly still has to learn.

With his awakening of his Full Powered Super Saiyan state in Chapter 103, Broly now sits comfortably on the same level as Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo in their strongest forms. However, since he has just learned how to master his own, there are quite a few noticeable gaps that he needs to fill in order to be just as strong as his contemporaries. The more he learns to call this state his own, the greater his power will be.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
