Summary

  • Vegeta has not mastered Ultra Ego yet, but fans believe he will eventually achieve the ultimate form.
  • Only Vegeta has unlocked Ultra Ego, as it aligns with his personality, while Goku and Gohan are unlikely candidates.
  • Dragon Ball Super Chapter 205 does not have a set release date yet, but fans hope for updates in the upcoming V-JUMP edition.

After introducing Ultra Instinct, Dragon Ball Super introduced Ultra Ego, which could be defined as "Vegeta's version of Ultra Instinct". These two transformations work very differently, but they are both divine forms and the most powerful transformation that Goku and Vegeta have, respectively, achieved.

However, Dragon Ball Super has yet to show all that Ultra Ego has to offer as a transformation. It is a transformation that is hard to completely control, as it actually requires the user to let go of some of their self-control (which makes it perfect for Vegeta). So what exactly could be the challenges to mastering Ultra Ego?

What Is Ultra Ego In Dragon Ball?

There are two things called "Ultra Ego" in Dragon Ball. One is an advanced ability and the other one is a divine transformation achieved by Vegeta in the Granolah arc of Dragon Ball Super. They are related, as the Ultra Ego form combines the technique with the power of destruction, but the Gods of Destruction can also use it. We will refer to the transformation in this article.

When Vegeta transforms into his Ultra Ego form, his appearance turns similar to Super Saiyan 3 (which Vegeta has never used in Super and was believed to have never unleashed in this timeline before Dragon Ball Daima introduced it), but his hair doesn't grow as much, and it goes purple instead of blonde. This is the strongest level that Vegeta has reached so far.

Has Vegeta Mastered Ultra Ego?

Vegeta has yet to master Ultra Ego, but many fans believe that he will eventually do so, just like Goku has perfected Ultra Instintic — the Black Frieza Saga, if it ever happens, would be a great time to introduce the ultimate version of this form.

The first challenge to mastering this form is that it is not as stable as other almost equally powerful forms, like Ultra Instinct or Beast (the latter is not a divine form, but it is still quite powerful either way). However, the idea of having to control oneself to achieve a form that is all about losing oneself to their lust for battle sounds paradoxical, so some fans wonder how it would be possible to master Ultra Ego — turning into a "battle berserker" would hardly be "mastering" it, but perhaps the ultimate form of Ultra Ego could be something like that.

While Ultra Instinct is all about self-control, Ultra Ego is all about self-indulgence, which is why it is suited for Vegeta. Another challenge is that the user's power increases as they take more damage — this can be either a blessing or a curse, depending on how it is used. Getting more powerful when taking damage can allow the user to unleash tremendous power and turn the tables in battles, but it can also easily lead the user to completely lose themselves in their lust for battle.

A third major challenge with this transformation is to not giving in completely to their thirst for battle, which can cause them to act too rashly and take damage to the point where the transformation backfires on them, leaving the user completely drained.

Who Can Use Ultra Ego In The Story?

Only Vegeta is the only character who has unlocked Ultra Ego so far, and it's likely that it will stay this way. As mentioned above, this is a transformation that suits his personality, just like Ultra Instinct fits more Goku.

Ultra Instinct costs a lot of stamina, and it can even kill the user if not controlled properly. This is something Goku is more used to dealing with than other characters, since he has learned to use Kaioken, which is also a costly technique that requires a lot of ki control.

Goku and Gohan don't seem like characters who would ever achieve Ultra Ego, but maybe Broly could unleash it eventually. However, some fans think no one else would want to achieve Ultra Ego because they see this transformation as useless.

When Will Dragon Ball Super Chapter 205 Be Released?

Unfortunately, Dragon Ball Super is still on an indefinite hiatus, meaning that there is no release date set for chapter 205 to be out. Maybe the upcoming edition of V-JUMP, which will be released on April 20, 2025, will bring more information on the return of the series. Toyotaro has confirmed tha t Dragon Ball Super is not canceled or anything of the sort.

Dragon Ball Super is available to read on MANGA Plus in English and Spanish.
