This article has MAJOR SPOILERS for Dragon Age: Inquisition
BioWare has confirmed that Hawke, the main playable character in Dragon Age 2 who also appeared in Dragon Age: Inquisition, will not be returning for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Dragon Age fans have been looking forward to Dragon Age: The Veilguard for years now, though it was previously known as Dreadwolf. Information on Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been hard to come by in years past, but BioWare has now blown the door open on the highly-anticipated game.
BioWare dropped a new trailer for Dragon Age: The Veilguard at the Xbox Games Showcase that revealed all seven of the game's companions, followed by an extended gameplay presentation a couple of days later. While there are some Dragon Age diehards who are not thrilled about the art direction or the shift to action-RPG combat, many are extremely excited about The Veilguard and everything it's bringing to the table. This includes the return of fan-favorite characters like Varric, though one of Varric's closest friends won't be making the jump to The Veilguard.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Antagonists Officially Confirmed
The main villains of Dragon Age: The Veilguard have been revealed – and they may not be exactly who many fans expected to face off against.
As confirmed by BioWare, Hawke will not be in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Hawke was the customizable protagonist of Dragon Age 2. They returned in Dragon Age: Inquisition and played a key role in the story, especially during the quest "Here Lies the Abyss." This quest sees the Inquisitor and their companions, plus Hawke and a Grey Warden, try to escape The Fade. Near the end of the quest, players have to choose to leave Hawke or the Grey Warden behind, sacrificing them so the rest of the group can make it out alive.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Will Not Have Hawke
So, depending on what choices players made in Dragon Age: Inquisition, Hawke can either be dead or alive in The Veilguard. Regardless, Hawke will not be in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, so it's somewhat of a moot point. But even though Dragon Age 2 hero Hawke won't make an appearance in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, there's always the possibility that players will get an update on his whereabouts, assuming Hawke is alive in their version of the world.
Choices players made in Dragon Age: Inquisition carry over into Dragon Age: The Veilguard, though it will be a bit more hands-on this time around. Instead of importing their save files, Dragon Age: The Veilguard players will simply get to pick and choose what happened in their Inquisition playthrough to set up the world of Veilguard. They will also be able to recreate their Dragon Age: Inquisition character since the Inquisitor will indeed be appearing in Veilguard in some capacity.
