- The Inquisitor and new protagonist Rook were designed for all primary races, and key decisions from Inquisition impact The Veilguard.
The Inquisitor is back in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, as players will be able to set the appearance and major decisions of the previous protagonist before the start of the game. While the focus in Dragon Age: The Veilguard shifted away from Solas, the Dread Wolf is still expected to be a key factor in the narrative. His time with the Inquisition and his personal relationship with the Inquisitor have kept fans wondering if BioWare would bring back the Herald of Andraste in the next Dragon Age chapter.
The Trespasser DLC ends with the Inquisitor confronting Solas after a fateful chase across the Eluvian network, and their conversation single-handedly sets up the premise of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The gameplay sneak peek for The Veilguard showed that Varric and Rook were already hunting Solas in the opening moments, perfectly bridging the final scene of Inquisition with that of the fourth game. However, BioWare also confirmed that the Inquisitor would have time to shine in The Veilguard as well.
Ahead of the gameplay reveal of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the official YouTube channel for the franchise answered a few burning questions as to what players could expect to see in the next game. Namely, Dragon Age confirmed that players would not only see the Inquisitor in The Veilguard, but that they would be able to customize their appearance through character creation alongside Rook, who is meant to be the new protagonist. In addition to the appearance, players will be able to define the key choices made during the events of Inquisition, though it remains to be seen if the Dragon Age Keep will function with The Veilguard as well.
As seen in the Reddit post made by DonTheBomb, Dragon Age fans have been elated by the news. While they remain split on The Veilguard's graphics in the reveal trailer, video footage and screenshots paint a more favorable picture of the game. The art direction seems to follow in the footsteps of Dragon Age: Inquisition, but a few characters like Emmrich appear to be more stylized compared to previous companions in the Dragon Age franchise.
The Inquisitor Returns in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Though it remains to be seen how the Inquisitor will fit into the narrative of The Veilguard, both Rook and the Inquisitor were designed with all four primary races in mind, which means that they likely share most, if not all, character appearance options. The message left by Dragon Age on YouTube explains that key decisions from Dragon Age: Inquisition will affect the beginning of The Veilguard, implying that the choice to disband or keep the Inquisition will likely play a role. Fans will be able to experience the next chapter of Dragon Age in Fall 2024.
