How to Start The Black Emporium Quest
To get right to it, you can typically unlock The Black Emporium quest when returning to the Lighthouse just after completing Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Cobbled Swan main story quest. On returning to the Lighthouse, head to the Courtyard, where you'll notice a yellow quest icon at the Caretaker's Workshop at the Lighthouse, as pictured above. Speak to the Caretaker, who says you've received an invitation to The Black Emporium, which triggers the quest to appear in your Journal as a Region Quest. You must then travel to Dock Town to find The Black Emporium to unlock it. Fortunately, it's one of the shortest side quests in the game and is straightforward to complete.
Some players are also reporting that you can get the Black Emporium quest by speaking with the Shadow Messenger, an NPC wearing a bird mask, at Glandivalis Square in Dock Town, just around the corner from the Shadow Dragons Sanctum. However, an invitation via the Caretaker seems to be the most common method.

To get the A Most Esteemed Purveyor Achievement in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you must complete The Black Emporium quest as follows:
- Return to Dock Town and follow the quest marker through the streets of Dock Town until you reach the area marked on the map below. The route typically involves traveling from the Safehouse through the Temple of Andraste and Spare Coin Way, until you finally reach the Central Market, where you can find The Black Emporium inside the building with the red and gold banners.
- Head inside the building with the banners to enter The Black Emporium, completing the quest. The Black Emporium now has a purple marker on the local map, as pictured below:
When you reach The Black Emporium for the first time, you unlock the A Most Esteemed Purveyor achievement, which pops up on your screen as soon as you find the shop. There aren't any other quest rewards, but there is a Candlehop located near the bottom of the steps by The Black Emporium shop.
You can also peruse and buy The Black Emporium's wares at your leisure, which stocks many items to buy with mainly Etheric Remnant under the following categories:
- Weapons
- Armors
- Accessories, such as an Uncommon Trinket for Neve called Exhaustive Notes.
- Materials
- Values and Collectibles
- Appearance
It also seems you cannot sell items to The Black Emporium and only buy them.
