Summary
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard is said to be targeting an October 2024 release.
- BioWare last said that the much-anticipated RPG will hit the market in fall 2024, without committing to a more precise release window.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is reportedly targeting an October 2024 release. That's according to a well-known insider who previously leaked plenty of other Dragon Age: The Veilguard information.
The source in question is Jeff Grubb, a long-time games industry journo currently working for Giant Bomb. Grubb has been sharing BioWare insights for many a year now, with one of his most recent reports including a scoop on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf changing its name to DA: The Veilguard.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Reportedly Targeting October 2024 Release
The insider has now once again offered some new information on the game by narrowing down its release window. Speaking during the latest episode of the Game Mess Mornings podcast, Grubb said that BioWare was last aiming to launch Dragon Age: The Veilguard in October 2024. This was supposedly still the case as of some "weeks ago." Although Grubb acknowledged that plans could have changed since then, he asserted that October has been Dragon Age: The Veilguard's release window target "for a while now."
The fourth entry in the popular RPG series has officially been targeting a 2024 debut since the latest Xbox Games Showcase held in June. Specifically, BioWare used that event to attach a fall 2024 release window to Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The fact that the studio still isn't willing to commit to a more precise time frame would suggest that there's a chance the game could yet miss it, thus perhaps slipping into 2025. But that's far from guaranteed, especially seeing how the much-anticipated RPG had already endured multiple internal delays. Its latest postponement is understood to have happened back in March, when Grubb reported that Dragon Age: The Veilguard was pushed from the third to the fourth quarter of 2024.
Generally speaking, the holiday season is by far the most lucrative period of the year for publishers. BioWare will hence likely want to avoid a scenario in which Dragon Age: The Veilguard slips into 2025 at all costs. The game itself has technically been in the works since 2015, but went through a few major shakeups that forced it to essentially return to the drawing board, which is why its development ended up taking as long as it did. Most notably, BioWare reportedly restarted the project in 2018 with the goal of creating an RPG with live-service elements, but then scrapped that idea three years later following Anthem's less-than-successful launch.
The final version of Dragon Age: The Veilguard hence won't have any kind of multiplayer, unlike its immediate predecessor, which featured a co-op mode for up to four players. Whenever it finally releases, the fourth Dragon Age game will land on the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Its Steam version won't require EA's launcher to play.
