Inquisitor actor Alix Wilton Regan recently talked about the backlash regarding Dragon Age: The Veilguard, saying that she was “absolutely devastated” by the backlash it received from some fans. Dragon Age: The Veilguard was one of 2024’s most polarizing games. While many critics and players loved it, a large part of the fanbase was greatly disappointed with the RPG.
Released in October 2024, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was the fourth mainline entry in the RPG series. The game was in development for around nine years, and it became controversial as soon as its first official trailer was unveiled. While Dragon Age: The Veilguard had mostly positive reviews, and it currently holds an average score of 80 on OpenCritic, it has a “Mixed” reception on Steam, with 69% of all players giving it positive reviews on the platform.
Dragon Age: Inquisition - Why You Should Start Over in 2025
Dragon Age: Inquisition still holds up in 2025, and starting fresh might be the best way to rediscover everything it has to offer.
Now, actor Alix Wilton Regan, who voiced the female Inquisitor in Dragon Age: Inquisition and The Veilguard, has addressed the backlash around the game (via IGN). According to the actor, "I feel absolutely devastated for BioWare as a studio that they got such mixed reactions to the game," as she thought it was a really strong offering. Regan also thought that many people “kind of wanted to see it fail” because “they’re just really bad people on the internet,” and some were already judging the title before it was even released.
Dragon Age Actor Alix Wilton Regan Felt 'Devastated' With Veilguard's Reaction
I feel absolutely devastated for BioWare as a studio that they got such mixed reactions to the game.
Regan’s reaction is understandable when remembering how Dragon Age: The Veilguard was review bombed. Soon after the title released, some individuals coordinated attacks on it on platforms such as Metacritic, criticizing the game’s LGBTQ representation and calling it “woke.”
Due to multiple factors, Dragon Age: The Veilguard underperformed EA’s expectations. According to reports unveiled earlier this year, Veilguard only reached around 1.5 million players during its first quarter, failing to match EA’s expectations by around 50%. Due to this poor reception, development on Veilguard has effectively come to an end, dashing hopes for any post-launch DLC or major content updates.
Soon after EA announced these results, BioWare suffered layoffs, essentially disbanding the team who worked on Dragon Age, and sending some developers to other EA projects. BioWare is currently working on the upcoming Mass Effect. However, the game does not have an official release date yet, and not much is known about it at this point.
