Famous content creator Herschel Beahm IV, better known as Dr Disrespect, revealed some new info about his upcoming game Deadrop, including its possible release window and platform availability details. In doing so, he broke months of silence on Midnight Society's vertical extraction shooter, which he hasn't discussed during his broadcasts to any meaningful extent since October 2022.

Deadrop has been in active development for around a year at this point, but not much has been revealed about the game as of today. Dr Disrespect's studio took months just to confirm the game's official title following its announcement, with the streamer himself effectively taking upon the role of the company's spokesperson. Fans were previously able to buy an NFT-based Founders Pass for Deadrop.

Responding to a fan question during a January 18 stream, Dr Disrespect said his team "would like to assume" that Deadrop will be available on the PS5. Expanding on that statement, the streamer revealed that Midnight Society's current plan is to "go cross-platform," launching the shooter on both the Xbox Series X and PS5, as well as PC. Beahm suggested the final confirmation of Deadrop's platform availability might arrive sometime in 2024, when the game should be "close" to releasing. Reading between the lines, it's still unclear whether Midnight Society is exploring the idea of traditional publisher support, especially given how the studio previously vowed to pioneer a new publishing model.

Earlier during the same stream, Dr Disrespect jokingly told Timothy "TimTheTatman" Betar to prepare for "grinding Deadrop" in the near future. In a more serious follow-up to that quip, the popular content creator posited that Midnight Society is still hard at work getting Deadrop to the point where it's something the players would "want to grind."

While Dr Disrespect hasn't explicitly said that Deadrop will support cross-play between different platforms during his latest stream, that seems like a given in light of his recent idea for balancing controller vs mouse-and-keyboard gameplay in Deadrop. Another reason to expect the upcoming shooter to support this feature is that cross-play has been an industry standard for years now, at least as far as competitive FPS titles are concerned.

Dr Disrespect has been a vocal critic of aim assist in cross-play shooters for as long as he's been streaming, but even he previously conceded that Deadrop will have to deliver some sort of aiming assistance to controller players. In doing so, he provided yet another strong indication that Midnight Society is developing its upcoming game with cross-platform multiplayer in mind.

Deadrop is currently in development.
