Dota 2 has come a long way since its inception, incorporating new and innovative features that benefit its players. Recently, Dota 2 has finally given players the option to surrender or forfeit a match, a highly requested feature that will serve as a quality-of-life improvement for the MOBA.
While the surrender feature has been available for a while, many players do not know how to use it. Fortunately, this guide will cover everything there is to know about surrendering in Dota 2, along with other valuable tidbits.
How to Surrender in Dota 2
- To surrender in a private lobby, players must type GG or GGWP in the chat box (All Chat). Typing GG or GGWP will instantly end the game.
Surrendering in a private lobby will not earn the player any item drops or trophies. Additionally, it will not affect their personal stats either.
- To surrender in a public lobby, all five players must type GG or GGWP in the chat box (All Chat). When all players type GG or GGWP the game will end instantly.
Players can only surrender in a public lobby after the 30-minute mark.
Alternative Method to Surrender in Dota 2
- To surrender in a private lobby, players must select Good game or Good game, well played from the chat wheel (All Chat).
- To surrender in a public lobby, all five players must select Good game or Good game, well played from the chat wheel (All Chat).
How to Cancel Surrender in Dota 2
Players that accidentally surrender in Dota 2 can cancel it within ten seconds from the Surrender countdown pop-up.
Why Surrender in Dota 2?
For those wondering why they should use the surrender feature, here are a couple of scenarios worth considering:
- When the game seems unwinnable.
- A player or the team is feeding unnecessarily.
- A player is making it difficult for their team to play.
- A player or the team is unable to play due to high pings.
Even though Dota 2 has a surrender feature, players must always try their best. There have been numerous instances where a team came back from defeat simply because they did not give up. As long as a team sticks together and plays its roles, there is no reason why it should not succeed.
The surrender option is welcomed, but only as long as it is not abused, so players are advised to use the feature only when needed.
Dota 2 is available on PC.
