The developers have taken great care to make sure Dota 2 is perfectly balanced, and it allows players to undo a mistake before it is too late. For instance, players can disable the Auto Attack feature and cancel an attack or spell before execution. Since many Dota 2 players do not know they can do this, this guide will illustrate how to disable the Auto Attack feature and cancel attacks and spells before they could backfire.

How To Disable Auto Attack In Dota 2

Disable Auto Attack Option in Dota 2

Many players do not realize the Auto Attack feature is enabled by default, but they can disable it by following these simple steps:

  1. Access the main menu.
  2. Click the gear icon on the top left side of the screen.
  3. Click “Options”.
  4. Under “Game,” locate “Auto Attack.”
  5. Select “Never.”

While the Auto Attack feature is great for jungling or pushing lanes for core heroes, it can be a nuisance if you do not want to get the last hits on creeps or enemies as a Support hero.

How To Cancel Attacks & Spells In Dota 2

Cancel Attacks Hotkey in Dota 2

Sometimes, you would fare better if you canceled an attack or spell. For instance, if you play as Windranger, you can cast the Focus Fire spell on an enemy to take them out quickly. However, if the enemy has a Blade Mail, they can counter your spell, causing damage to your hero — or even killing them. In such cases, canceling an attack or spell is always wise. You can cancel attacks and spells by following these simple steps:

  1. Access the main menu.
  2. Click the gear icon on the top left side of the screen.
  3. Select “To Advanced Hotkeys.”
  4. Under Unit Actions, locate “Cancel Current Action.”
  5. Set a hotkey.
  6. Now, press the assigned hotkey to cancel an attack or spell whenever you are in a match before it can do more harm than good.

The default hotkey to cancel an attack or spell is S on the keyboard.
