Released in 1995, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest is the direct sequel to the original Donkey Kong Country. In the second entry of the franchise, gamers played as the duo of Diddy and Dixie Kong after Donkey Kong was kidnapped by the villain King K. Roll. With new levels and slightly tweaked gameplay, as players no longer had the huge Donkey Kong on the team, Donkey Kong Country 2 was acclaimed as one of the best SNES games ever made, becoming the sixth most-sold game on the platform.

Now, a gamer called h4v0c21 uncovered a new cheat code for Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. According to this discovery, gamers can pause the game, press Right + Y, Left+ A, Up + B, and Down + X, and they will return to Donkey Kong Country 2’s overworld map at any moment. The secret command can even be used in levels that were not completed by the player and is useful to prevent some deaths.
Donkey Kong Country 2's Cheat Code Found After 29 Years
Ever since the game was released, Donkey Kong Country 2 has had several well-known cheats, so it’s surprising to see someone uncovering this one after 29 years. For instance, Cheat Mode could be unlocked by highlighting the Two Player Contest mode and pressing Down ten times. This could be used to activate some perks, such as gaining 50 bonus lives or unlocking Hard Mode, for example.
So far, 2024 has been an interesting year for Donkey Kong fans. A few months ago, Nintendo revealed that Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is coming to the Nintendo Switch on January 16, 2025. The game is an HD remaster of the title originally released for the Wii in 2010. Unfortunately, the remaster will cost $60, a price tag that has been criticized by some fans, especially when compared to similar remasters.
Earlier this year, a leaker revealed the existence of an unproduced Donkey Kong game, which was being developed by Vicarious Visions, currently known as Blizzard Albany. Titled Donkey Kong Freedom, the title would have been an open-world game. Unfortunately, the project was scrapped sometime after 2016, and development never went forward.
