Cranky Kong is one of the most iconic characters in the franchise and, fortunately, makes a few special appearances in Donkey Kong Bananza, usually getting lost in most of the new Layers that DK and Pauline explore together. As expected, the old Kong is always ready to complain and deliver his classic sarcastic remarks about how he should be the hero instead of DK.

One of the places where he shows up is the Hilltop Layer, the second area the duo visits in their quest to reach the Planet Core. However, unlike his first appearance in the game, this second encounter is located in a slightly trickier spot. So, for those wondering how to reach Cranky Kong in Donkey Kong Bananza, here’s how to do it!

How to Reach Cranky Kong in Hilltop Layer

While not as massive as the Lagoon Layer, the Hilltop Layer still offers a well-crafted environment filled with several hidden Banandium Gems for players to discover. One of them is tied to Cranky Kong, who can be seen floating on a platform above the characters. Fortunately, reaching him is a relatively simple task for DK and Pauline, requiring no special powers—just good aim.

Cranky Kong can be found floating above a lone Banana on the right side of the map. His platform is clearly visible on the minimap, but to be absolutely sure, players can also look for Rambi, the rhinoceros that accompanies the heroes throughout the game. Since the Hilltop Layer is a relatively smaller map compared to others, finding him shouldn't be too difficult.

To knock him off the platform, players must grab a chunk of dirt from the ground using RT, then press the same button again to aim. Simply throw it at the spot where Cranky is standing to bring him down. Once he falls, he will remain in place until DK and Pauline speak with him, so it's up to the player to decide when to interact.

How to Get Banandium Gem #32 in Donkey Kong Bananza

The 32nd Banana in Hilltop Layer SL200 is Cranky’s Hilltop Rant. After knocking Cranky Kong off his floating platform in this section of the Underground World in Donkey Kong Bananza, all players need to do is drop down and interact with him. As with most of his appearances, Cranky immediately starts complaining about something, usually related to a task DK “failed” to complete, and now he has to handle it himself.

In Hilltop Layer, for example, one of his rants focuses on how he should be the one riding Rambi to save the Bananas, not DK. After a few amusing lines, worth reading just for the laughs, Cranky will reward players with the Banandium Gem tied to this area.

It’s also worth noting that Cranky Kong appears multiple times in Donkey Kong Bananza, often getting lost in each new Layer. Players should always keep an eye out for him, as each encounter not only delivers funny dialogue but also grants a unique Banandium Gem for that region.
