A Donkey Kong Bananza fan chose to customize their game cartridge, but the result was absolute disaster for their Nintendo Switch 2. The fan shared a series of video clips introducing their plan, going through it, and then showing the results, and it's led to Donkey Kong Bananza and Nintendo Switch 2 fans cringing in horror.

Nintendo Switch 2 cartridges are extremely small, and are completely hidden when inside the console. Long ago with older Nintendo systems, some game cartridges featured custom colors, like The Legend of Zelda's gold cartridges, or the yellow cartridge for Donkey Kong 64. The practice has largely died out, as cartridges remained partially visible in systems like the N64 and Game Boy, but typically aren't anymore.

That didn't stop one fan called gardnerhartung from wanting to pay tribute to the classic Donkey Kong cartridges. Gardnerhartung explains that he wanted to have a yellow cartridge for his copy of Donkey Kong Bananza, and chose to spray paint it a vibrant yellow. After successfully achieving the color he wanted and allowing it to dry, he inserted the cartridge into his Nintendo Switch 2, even as he acknowledges that it might cause paint to rub off onto the Switch 2. The result of his effort is that the cartridge became totally stuck in the cart slot, and things only got worse from there.

Nintendo Switch 2 Cartridge Modification Goes Horribly Wrong

As the videos continue playing, Gardnerhartung showcases his efforts to retrieve the cartridge from the Switch 2. At first, his attempts to use a plier only scrape the yellow off of the top of the cartridge, making the whole attempt to recolor it largely pointless. Gardnerhartung remains fairly neutral about the situation as it plays out in front of him, up until the very end. He said that since he'd be playing Donkey Kong Bananza for a while, it wasn't a big deal for the moment, but he would accept advice on how to solve the situation. However, seconds later, his attempts with the plier snap off the top of the cartridge entirely, and the realization of what he has done seems to set in as he says "I actually just broke the cartridge" with a wry chuckle.

Viewers watching the video have been cringing at the entire experience, especially since there's a good chance that he's broken his Switch 2 entirely. With the latest Nintendo console being in high demand and short supply, the situation only adds bitterness for those who have yet to acquire one. Gamers who want to celebrate a particular game with customization would be wise to consider Gardnerhartung's mistake a lesson, and stick to only customizing Nintendo Switch 2 game cases.
