It seems more and more recently audiences are loving reunions, whether that may be a complete reboot series or a one-and-done film. Well luckily for fans of the hit comedy series Community, Dan Harmon assures that Donald Glover will be a part of the upcoming film.
Audiences fell in love with the successful comedy series Community, a series loosely based on Harmon's time at Glendale Community College. For those who need a refresher, a former lawyer played by Joel McHale goes to community college after his firm finds out he doesn't actually have a college degree. When McHale's Jeff Winger attends his Spanish course, he meets a beautiful woman and creates an imaginary study group in order to hook up with he. However, the fake study group ends up becoming a real study group when word gets out, creating an unlikely friend group.
In a keynote conversation at Variety's Business Manager's Breakfast, Harmon, the creator of Community and Rick and Morty, assured fans that Glover will make an appearance in the upcoming film. Glover's exit before Community's final season and the announcement of everyone returning for the film except for Glover, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Chevy Chase left fans a little uneasy. However, Harmon clarified he talked to Glover over the phone himself. "For lack of a better word, there was a ball fumbled... [Glover] is down to clown," Harmond said.
Harmon also revealed that the Community film is currently being written and why he chose Peacock as the distributor as opposed to Amazon, which was the second option. "Is it smart as a creative to go with the place you think is more solvent? That's not how a creative should think, you're supposed to go with your passion and ultimately that's what we did." Harmon also went on to praise Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland on his marketing skills. Harmon gushed about how grateful he is that Roiland has a natural talent for marketing and takes care of all the licensing for their show Rick and Morty.
Reboots and reunions come and go but for many fans, it's simply all about nostalgia. Where would these characters be today? What would it be like if some of the most beloved shows were to air in today's viewing climate? It is fun to wonder, and it's even exciting for creators like Harmon to explore all these "what if's?" One thing fans do know for certain is, there will be a Community movie and Glover will make a memorable appearance.
The Community movie will be released as a Peacock exclusive.
