EA has issued a clarification regarding its recent confirmation that the Battlefield 6 open beta features AI-controlled bots. The publisher assured Battlefield 6 players that the use of bots is currently limited, in addition to outlining a way to completely avoid them.
The early access phase of the Battlefield 6 open beta officially kicked off this Thursday, August 7. It is exclusively open to people who registered for the test via Battlefield Labs, are subscribed to EA Play Pro, or have obtained an access key via the game's recent multiplayer reveal broadcast. The truly "open" phase of the open beta will begin on Saturday, August 9.
Why Battlefield 6's AI Bots Are Nothing to Worry About
It was recently confirmed that some AI bots will fill empty slots in certain Battlefield 6 modes, though this should not be as worrying as some think.
AI Bots Are Limited to One Battlefield 6 Open Beta Playlist
Just as the test commenced, Battlefield 6 open beta players started noticing that some matches feature what appear to be AI-controlled opponents, which is something that EA previously hinted at. The publisher has now elaborated on this feature in an official statement that outlines exactly how and why bots are deployed. According to EA, bots are limited to the Training Grounds playlists, meaning that they are currently only available as part of Breakthrough Initiation.
Battlefield 6 Uses Bots for a Smoother Learning Experience, EA Says
As the name suggests, Breakthrough Initiation serves as an introduction to the Breakthrough mode, being designed for 16-player matches, with AI-controlled soldiers filling up the rest of the roster. According to EA, the core idea behind this approach is to facilitate the process of teaching players the dynamics of the new mode without overwhelming them with full-scale, human-only matches. "Training Grounds playlists are here to introduce people to the core elements of Breakthrough, and offer a smoother experience than a full lobby," the publisher said. These introductory playlists are limited to the first 15 ranks of the Battlefield 6 open beta mode and automatically disappear afterward.
EA ostensibly opted to clarify this feature due to the online backlash resulting from its initial confirmation that Battlefield 6 would use bots. The publisher originally said that AI-controlled opponents would primarily be deployed with the goal of filling multiplayer matches, which is a fairly typical approach for modern competitive shooters. Players who are vehemently opposed to the idea of sharing a server with bots can avoid them from the get-go during the open beta by accessing Breakthrough from the "Featured" playlist row. The same option will presumably be available in the final version of the game.

The ongoing test is set to conclude on Sunday, August 10. Another Battlefield 6 open beta weekend is then scheduled to run from August 14 to 17. It's currently unclear whether any more tests will take place between then and the game's release, which is scheduled for October 10.
