Marvel Studios has released the final trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ahead of the film's much anticipated weekend debut. The Sam Raimi film is projected to earn roughly $180 million domestically, looking to dethrone The Batman as the year's highest-grossing film.

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as the leading figure in Marvel Studios Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, joined by MCU staples Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Wong. In addition, the upcoming project also sees the reemergence of notable figures from 2016's original Doctor Strange film. Rachel McAdams returns, reprising her role as Christine Palmer, alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, taking up the mantel once more as the antagonistic Baron Mordo.

The new Doctor Strange 2 trailer opens with an exploration into the past, laying the foundation for the series of events ahead for Strange and Olsen's Scarlet Witch. Audiences are quickly taken back to several moments involving the sorcerer from previous MCU appearances, alongside events involving Maximoff and Mordo, highlighting the significance of the three. Threads of the past suddenly weave into the future in the footage, showcasing the consequences of the actions taken. The trailer continues showcasing familiar and new footage from the upcoming film, emphasizing the extreme chaos of the multiverse adventure.

However, one of the more standout moments involves a confrontation between Maximoff and Capitan Carter at the Illuminati headquarters. Besides the view of the shield emblazoned with the British flag, not much else is revealed in the rapid scene. Carter first appeared in the Disney Plus original series What If...? And has been speculated to make her live-action debut in the upcoming Doctor Strange film.

Excitement has been building for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ever since the conclusion of the box office sensation Spider-Man: No Way Home, where the trailer for the upcoming Strange film first appeared as a post-credit scene. The studio has done its best to keep the surprises the film has to offer behind closed doors, but recent leaks have tainted the experience for those unable to avoid them. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the leaks and noted that the studio aims to make the experience worthwhile, regardless of what may have been revealed too soon. Based on the film's pre-sale numbers, audiences are not deterred by the spoils, eager to see the madness live and in person.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will look to win the box office this weekend, using the newly released trailer as extra fuel to ignite a fire beneath fans. The film has the opportunity to become the highest-grossing film of the year, which would be another notch on Marvel Studios' belt after the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. After the film's Thursday previews, the box office numbers will say a lot about its trajectory heading into the weekend.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6, 2022.
