The Trial of all Seasons is a special quest that can be picked up in the meadows of Reaper's Coast. The quest entails solving a trial presented by an NPC called the Tongue of Flames, who briefly explains the trial requirements. The trial involves deciphering the clues for each of the four totems that surround a brazier and performing relevant actions to pass the test.
Each of the four totems represents four seasons, but the clues can seem vague given the depth of Divinity: Original Sin 2's RPG systems. If you've found yourself stuck trying to solve the Trial for all Seasons, here's how to activate each of the four totems and pass the trial.

Deciphering The "A Trial For All Seasons" Puzzle In Divinity: Original Sin 2
The riddle accompanying the A Trial for all Seasons puzzle is as follows:
Winter shudders with ice and snow
Autumn rumbles, the sky lit aglow
Summer burns, air fiery as a hearth
Spring quenches, with bloody rebirth
As you can deduce, each line of the riddle points to a specific season but then ends with a cryptic phrase. Solving the puzzle requires the performing of certain actions in order for players to activate each of the four totems.
- The winter totem demands creation of a frozen surface.
- The autumn totem requires electric clouds to activate.
- The summer totem activates when you produce sustained flames.
- The spring totem activates in the presence of a bloody surface.
How To Activate The Winter Totem In Divinity: Original Sin 2
Since the winter totem requires you to freeze the surface, you can achieve this by casting spells like Hail Strike and Ice Fan. You can also create frozen surfaces with freezing arrows.
Alternatively, frozen surfaces can also be produced by combining two hydrosophist spells, like Rain and Global Cooling, with the former creating water on the ground and the latter freezing it.
As the totem lights up with streaks of light spiraling around it, you'll know that it has been activated. You can also interact with the activated totems to initiate a special dialogue with them.
How To Activate The Autumn Totem In Divinity: Original Sin 2
Activating the autumn totem requires the production of electrified clouds. There are several ways you can create electrified clouds, and one of the simplest methods involves first producing rain and then casting a fire spell, like the Fireball, to produce steam. The steam can be electrified by certain electric spells like Electric Discharge or by simply firing a shock arrow into it.
Rangers can activate the autumn totem by first firing a Static Cloud arrow and following it up with a shocking arrow to produce electrified steam.

How To Activate The Summer Totem In Divinity: Original Sin 2
Just like the winter and autumn totems, activating the summer totem requires production of fire clouds. Given how complicated it is to create fire clouds in Divinity: Original Sin 2, it's quite rare to see one regular combat.
Fire clouds are created when a fire surface is condensed by Aerotheurge spells like Vaporize. However, certain fire spells like Laser Eyes are capable of creating fire clouds on their own. Fire Slugs can also cast Laser Eyes, but it shouldn't be too difficult to acquire a Laser Eye scroll or spellbook.
Create a quick save before attempting to activate the final totem, as it will be preceded by a challenging battle.
How To Activate The Spring Totem In Divinity: Original Sin 2
The Spring totem is the easiest totem to activate, and there are a few ways you can achieve it. A necromancer can simply cast the Rain Blood spell to activate the totem.
However, if your party composition lacks a necromancer, simply attacking one of your non-undead companions until they bleed should be equally capable of activating the totem. Elven characters can also consume a body part or perform the Flesh Sacrifice action near the totem to activate it.
Right after activating the final totem, your party will be pitted against four challengers, each representing one of the four totems. These challenges can be difficult to take down if you're below level 14.
Once you're done defeating the four challengers of the Tongue of Flame, the following will be your reward for successfully passing the trial:
- 10,400 XP for beating the challengers.
- 15,775 XP for completing the trial.
- A treasure chest with some gold and random gear.
- A Pheonix Heart, which can be consumed by an elf to acquire the Flaming Tongues skill.
