Disney Dreamlight Valley has made several changes and shifts since its early access debut in 2022. Most of these changes have occurred in updates, though the game's two DLC Expansion Passes, A Rift in Time and the Storybook Vale, have also added plenty of content to the hit simulation game. Despite this, Disney Dreamlight Valley’s competitors are constantly shifting the needle of the simulation genre, proving that Disney Dreamlight Valley must stay on top of trends if it’s to remain successful.
The most notable and recent introduction into the simulation genre is Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Yet another big-name IP debut in the genre, Hello Kitty Island Adventure, has popularized and affirmed several key gameplay features of simulation games, like fishing, creature collecting, harvesting, and much more. However, Hello Kitty Island Adventure also expanded not just to explore biomes above land, but to go deep under the sea. This perspective shift is not unique to Hello Kitty Island Adventure, but its take on an underwater biome has been incredibly popular. Disney Dreamlight Valley should follow suit, not just because it would likely be a hit with its player base, but because it features several franchises that would be the perfect excuse for this addition.

Disney Dreamlight Valley has hit great heights, but it might be time for another Disney property to take a swing at the simulation genre.
The Little Mermaid Could Introduce an Underwater Biome
The Little Mermaid would be the perfect film to take Disney Dreamlight Valley underwater. After all, the film itself states that “life is better, down where it’s wetter.” Using The Little Mermaid may seem like an odd choice, given that Ariel, Prince Eric, and Ursula are already on Disney Dreamlight Valley’s character roster. However, given that this biome would literally be underwater, rather than an above-ground water-themed biome, The Little Mermaid would be the best option.
Additionally, The Little Mermaid has been a part of Disney Dreamlight Valley since version 1.0. The franchise deserves a refresh, which is certainly possible. Disney Dreamlight Valley has used updates and DLC to add characters from franchises already present in the game. The Lion King is a notable example, with sidekicks Timon and Pumbaa joining after Nala, Simba, and Scar, in the Jungle Getaway update. Tangled also received this treatment, this time through DLC. Rapunzel and Flynn Rider both joined Disney Dreamlight Valley’s character roster in the A Rift in Time and Storybook Vale Expansion Passes, respectively, long after Mother Gothel’s introduction in its base game. Certainly, The Little Mermaid could easily take this route.
What an Underwater Biome in Disney Dreamlight Valley Could Look Like
An underwater biome deserves underwater characters. As mentioned, the most obvious members of The Little Mermaid are already present in Disney Dreamlight Valley. However, Ariel’s sea creature friends are not. An underwater biome could easily add both Sebastian the crab and Ariel’s fish friend Flounder. Sebastian may be able to skitter across the sand, but fish obviously can’t walk. Adding Flounder specifically would justify this underwater biome, while also giving players a whole new world to explore.
However, there are some conditions for this underwater biome. Firstly, this underwater biome should be part of Disney Dreamlight Valley’s base game. It would only make sense for all players to be able to explore this incredible new feature without a paywall blocking them. Secondly, alongside an underwater biome comes new tools used to explore it. Hello Kitty Island Adventure gives players both a snorkel and flippers. Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Expansion Passes have both added new Royal Tools — the Royal Hourglass in the A Rift in Time expansion and the Royal Net in the Storybook Vale. Because Disney Dreamlight Valley has added tools through DLC in the past, Gameloft and Disney could view the underwater biome as a hook for the game’s third Expansion Pass. Nevertheless, given how expansive this update could be, it would only be fair for an underwater biome in Disney Dreamlight Valley to be part of its base game.
