Gooseberry is an ingredient in Disney Dreamlight Valley that can be used for recipes or sold for Star Coins, but its true usefulness comes to light when players simply eat it to restore energy. While Gooseberries are extremely useful, they can be somewhat difficult to unlock, especially for players just starting out in Dreamlight Valley. This is because they can only be foraged in end-game areas that require a lot of Dreamlight to unlock. Players that already have these areas unlocked simply need to know what kind of bush to look for.

As with any ingredient, Disney Dreamlight Valley players will be able to use Gooseberry to cook meals. Cooked meals are great for earning Star Coins or as gifts to villagers, but they can also be eaten to restore energy. The biggest difference between eating Gooseberry raw and eating it as part of a cooked meal is that cooked meals can restore energy beyond the player's normal maximum.

Dreamlight Valley - How to Unlock Gooseberry

Gooseberry can only be obtained from two biomes, and both of them are considered end-game areas. In order to find Gooseberries, players will need to unlock one of the following areas:

  • Frosted Heights - Costs 10,000 Dreamlight to clear the Giant Night Thorns blocking this area.
  • Forgotten Lands - Costs 15,000 Dreamlight to clear the Giant Night Thorns blocking this area.

Players should also make note that the Frosted Heights can only be unlocked from the Forest of Valor (costs 3,000 Dreamlight to unlock), and the Forgotten Lands can only be unlocked from the Sunlit Plateau (costs 7,000 Dreamlight to unlock). It's recommended to unlock the Frosted Heights and its Snowballs, Amethysts, and Passion Lillies before unlocking the Forgotten Lands

Gooseberry can be harvested from bushes in the Frosted Heights and Forgotten Lands that look like those above. It can be easy to mistake Gooseberry Bushes for Raspberry Bushes since they both contain red berries, but they do look slightly different. Harvesting a Gooseberry Bush rewards players with three Gooseberries, but players can bring a Villager with the Foraging Companion Role in order to get extra Gooseberries while harvesting.

Dreamlight Valley - What Are Gooseberries For?

A single Gooseberry can be sold for 50 Star Coins, or it can be eaten to restore 600 Energy. At max level, players have a maximum energy capacity of 2,000, so it only takes three Gooseberries to almost completely restore the player's energy. Finally, Gooseberries are specifically required by four different recipes, those being the recipes for Dreamlight Valley's Berry Salad, Gooseberry Boba Tea, Red Fruit Sorbet, and Snow White's Gooseberry Pie (though more recipes may be added that require Gooseberry in future updates). They also fulfill any recipe that requires a generic Fruit.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is in early access now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
