Cocoa Beans are an ingredient in Disney Dreamlight Valley that players will likely find themselves needing a lot of. Though they are relatively easy to obtain, they do require a bit of legwork before players can start harvesting them. More specifically, they are locked behind a hefty Dreamlight barrier, meaning it may be a while before new players are able to unlock the ingredient. Cocoa Beans are the only way players can make chocolate-flavored desserts and meals, and because of this, they are used in quite a few recipes.

Cooking in Dreamlight Valley serves many purposes. For starters, cooked meals serve as a great energy source and can even boost a player's energy beyond its normal maximum. What's more, cooked dishes often sell for more than their individual ingredients would have otherwise. Finally, villagers will frequently request certain cooked meals either as a favorite gift of the day or as an order at Chez Remy.

Dreamlight Valley - How to Unlock Cocoa Beans

Cocoa Beans are harvested from trees like many other fruits in Dreamlight Valley that players are familiar with but are only found in two different biomes, those being:

  • Glade of Trust - Costs 5,000 Dreamlight to clear the Giant Night Thorns blocking this area.
  • Sunlit Plateau - Costs 7,000 Dreamlight to clear the Giant Night Thorns blocking this area.

Both of these areas can be unlocked as soon as players gain the ability to remove Giant Night Thorns, but they require quite a bit of Dreamlight. It's generally recommended that players unlock the Glade of Trust before the Sunlit Plateau, but they can do it in either order.

Cocoa Beans grow on trees that look like the one pictured above. Simply approach the tree and interact with it to harvest three Cocoa Beans. Lucky players may see the tree start to glow gold; if this happens, keep pressing the harvest button to get a ton of Cocoa Beans all at once. In order to maximize the output of Cocoa Beans, players should bring a Foraging Companion with them.

Cocoa Beans are specifically required for 11 different Dreamlight Valley recipes (though this number may change as future updates introduce more recipes), including some common favorite gifts like Birthday Cake, Chocolate Waffles, and Hot Cocoa. They can also satisfy the "Sweets" requirement of any other recipe, making them a very versatile ingredient. Finally, they can be sold for 38 Star Coins each and can be eaten raw to restore a surprising 450 Energy.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is in early access now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
