The Royal Pickaxe in Dreamlight Valley is an important tool that is mainly used to mine gems and minerals, break rocks, and clear different obstacles. Players get it as part of the introductory quest, The Royal Tools, from a giant rock behind Scrooge’s shop in the Plaza.

The Royal Pickaxe can be upgraded multiple times to clear different types of obstacles. Here are the upgrades currently available in the game and how to obtain them:

  • Small Sea Debris Removal: Granted by Maui after completing his friendship quest "The Great Maui" in Moana's Realm. This allows you to clear small coral clusters on Dazzle Beach.
  • Large Sea Debris Removal: Obtained from Maui after finishing his friendship quest "A Tale of Stone and Fire." This upgrade enables you to clear larger coral formations on Dazzle Beach.
  • Ice Block Removal: Awarded by Elsa upon completion of her friendship quest "Breaking the Ice" after unlocking the Frozen Realm. This allows you to break ice blocks found throughout the Valley.
  • Small Copper Rock Removal: Available after completing Jafar's quest "The Secrets of Eternity Isle" in the A Rift in Time expansion. This lets you break small copper rocks on Eternity Isle.
  • Small Glass Stalagmite Removal: Earned by progressing through Jafar's questline in the A Rift in Time expansion until you unlock Merlin's quest "Village Project: Timeless Trash." Completing this allows you to clear small glass stalagmites in the Glittering Dunes.
  • Petrified Wood Removal: Unlocked by completing the introductory quest "Welcome to the Storybook Vale" in the Storybook Vale expansion. This enables you to clear petrified wood in The Bind.
  • Hunk of Marble Removal: Granted by Hades as part of his friendship quest "Mythic Restoration" in the Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Storybook Vale expansion. This allows you to break hunks of marble in Mythopia.

The shovel is a useful Royal tool in Disney Dreamlight Valley that fans will need to dig holes for growing crops and vegetables, filling pits, and finding valuable items like Dream Shards and Night Shards. In addition to that, it also helps clear tree stumps blocking paths. You can find the shovel on the ground near Chez Remy in the Plaza.

The Royal Shovel also has several upgrades that allow you to clear different obstacles. Here are all the currently available ones:

  • Tree Stump Removal (Small and Large): You'll need to unlock the Frozen Realm and invite Anna to the Valley. By increasing your friendship with her and completing her quest "An Icy Invitation," you'll receive the Shovel Blade upgrade, allowing you to dig up both small and large tree stumps.
  • Wildebeest Bone Removal (Small): To clear the smaller wildebeest bones in the Sunlit Plateau, you need to unlock Scar by completing Mother Gothel's quest "The Curse." Then, increase your friendship level with Scar and complete his quest "Breaking Bones." This will give you the Lion's Claw Shovel Head upgrade.
  • Wildebeest Bone Removal (Large): After completing the "Breaking Bones" quest, continue to build your friendship with Scar and complete his next quest, "The Circle of Life." This will reward you with the Roaring Shovel Head upgrade, enabling you to clear the large wildebeest bones in the Sunlit Plateau.
  • Trash Removal on Dazzle Beach: By completing Donald Duck's friendship quest "Villager of the Month: Donald" (after unlocking him in the Forest of Valor), your shovel will be upgraded to clear the piles of trash scattered on Dazzle Beach.
  • Small Rubble Removal (Eternity Isle): If you own the A Rift in Time expansion, you can obtain the Small Rubble Shovel Potion. This is crafted at the Timebending Table after progressing through Merlin's "Village Project: Timeless Trash" quest. When applied to the Royal Shovel, it upgrades it and allows you to clear small piles of rubble on Eternity Isle.
  • Large Rubble Removal (Eternity Isle): Also part of the A Rift in Time expansion, the Large Rubble Shovel Potion lets you clear larger rubble piles on Eternity Isle. This potion is crafted at the Timebending Table once you have reached Level 1 of the Royal Hourglass upgrades.
  • Mossy Log Removal (The Bind): In the Disney Dreamlight Valley: A Rift in Time - Storybook Vale expansion, during Merida's introductory questline, "Clan DunBroch's Rules of the Hunt," you will receive an upgrade that allows you to clear the mossy logs found in The Bind.

To clear the larger evil plants in the Wild Tangle biome, you'll need to upgrade your Royal Hourglass to Level 1.
