Dead Island 2 and Dino Crisis are proving to be massive hits on PlayStation Plus, with both games breaking records for the subscription service. The PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium titles for the month were added on October 15, and fans of both classic and modern games were thrilled by the new additions.

Following a major overhaul in 2022, PlayStation Plus has seen a massive boost in memberships, with nearly 48 million subscribers as of March 2023. The service offers three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium, with the latter including an expansive collection of classic PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles along with popular modern games. Free titles are added each month for subscribers to enjoy, with the October 2024 PlayStation Plus lineup seeing incredible success. In particular, two games added to the service's Extra and Premium tiers are pulling in record player numbers.

According to TrueTrophies, Dino Crisis is now the fourth-biggest title to be released for PS Plus Premium since the service was revamped in 2022. The survival horror game is also the second most popular PlayStation 1 title on the service, only trailing behind the 1999 RPG The Legend of Dragoon. Although fans have been eagerly awaiting Shinji Mikami's classic game to be released for modern platforms, some remain frustrated, as Dino Crisis cannot be purchased separately on PlayStation 5 and is only available with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. It also lacks trophy support, though this clearly hasn't kept players away.

Dino Crisis and Dead Island 2 See Massive Success on PlayStation Plus

Additionally, the 2023 action RPG Dead Island 2 has become the biggest PS Plus Extra title of 2024 and the third most successful game made available on the tier to date, only falling behind Stray and Grand Theft Auto 5. Also noted by TrueTrophies, the title beat the runner-up, Dave the Diver, by 23.4%, also surpassing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - The Definitive Edition by an impressive 9.1%. After a lengthy amount of time in development hell, Dead Island 2 saw largely positive reviews at launch, with particular praise for its co-op gameplay.

While PlayStation Plus doesn't offer as many day-one games as Xbox Game Pass, the service continually adds a welcome selection of both nostalgic and recent titles, ensuring that every type of gamer can find something to enjoy. Recently, it was announced FBC: Firebreak will be added to PS Plus Extra on release day in 2025. The highly anticipated 3-player first-person online co-op title will be the first self-published game from Remedy Entertainment and will be set in the universe of Alan Wake and Control.
