Dimension 20 has announced Fantasy High: Junior Year–the long-awaited sequel to its most popular Dungeons and Dragons campaign. This new season of Dimension 20’s Dungeons and Dragons actual play series will air in January 2024.
Fantasy High was the inaugural actual play series of Dimension 20, released in September 2018 with the advent of Dropout, CollegeHumor’s ad-free streaming service. The Dungeons and Dragons game featured a modern fantasy world with a cast of freshmen attending the Aguefort Adventuring Academy, a magic high school for intrepid adventurers. Fantasy High: Sophomore Year aired a year later, with side stories titled Pirates of Leviathan and The Seven released in September 2020 and August 2021 respectively.
Now, Dimension 20 has announced the third season following the adventures of the Bad Kids. Fantasy High: Junior Year will follow the cast as they enter their third year at the Aguefort Adventuring Academy to deal with another quest full of hijinks and hilarity. The high-fantasy, John Hughes-style comedy does not have a solid release date yet, but it is set to begin in January 2024.
Little is known about what awaits the Bad Kids in Fantasy High: Junior Year, but the stinger at the end of the last season, plus the spooky thumbnail featuring a red eye on a cracked crystal, could hint that the players will finally be contending with the mysterious Night Yorb. Either way, players can expect the Intrepid Heroes–the core cast of Dimension 20–to reprise their original Bad Kids roles:
- Ally Beardsley as Kristen Applebees, the Human Cleric.
- Brian Murphy as Riz "The Ball" Gukgak, the Goblin Rogue
- Emily Axford as Figueroth "Fig" Faeth, the Tiefling Bard Warlock.
- Lou Wilson as Fabian Aramaris Seacaster, the Half-Elf Fighter Bard
- Siobhan Thompson as Adaine Abernant, the High Elf Wizard.
- Zac Oyama as Gorgug Thistlespring, the Half-Orc Barbarian Artificer.
- Brennan Lee Mulligan as the Dungeons and Dragons Dungeon Master.
Dimension 20 is currently between seasons. Mentopolis, a detective story taking place inside a human brain, just wrapped up, with Burrow’s End, a Watership Down-style story featuring a family of sentient stotes, scheduled to begin on October 4. Considering Burrow’s End will end in December, Fantasy High: Junior Year will probably start early on in the new year.
Dropout itself is going through some major changes for its five-year anniversary. CollegeHumor, its parent company, is fully rebranding to Dropout, abandoning its original name after 23 years. This official change is being done to celebrate the streaming service’s success with the Dungeons and Dragons actual play series and other comedy shows, and to more closely meet the staff’s values after its long and strange journey.
