2023 has been a very big year for gaming so far with exciting titles like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Diablo 4. Both games have been a sensation for their audiences and have helped show why the franchises are as popular as they are. They could not be more different from each other, and yet it seems like they may have something in common. The stories, gameplay, and mechanics are all different, but the way both games treat their mounts seems pretty similar.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Diablo 4 both feature mounts that help players traverse the massive game worlds. These mounts feature a very different aesthetic and are initially obtained in different ways, but they seem to operate similarly. While it is likely just a coincidence, it feels like Diablo 4 may have taken some notes from Nintendo when designing its countless mounts.
Diablo 4's Horses Work Like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's
Diablo 4 players will obtain their first mount once they reach act four of the story. They will need to complete a quest called Donan's Favor and will be granted a horse after a short conversation. This horse can be summoned at any time and is available for every single character. It helps make navigating Diablo 4's world a lot quicker, and players can customize it to with an assortment of cosmetic goodies. As players explore Diablo 4 more, they can find even more exciting mounts to add to their collection.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom does not really tell the player how to obtain their first mount, and it may be a bit tricky at first. Players must track down a wild horse grazing in the open world, sneak up on it, jump on it, and smash L to calm it down. Once it is calm, players can bring it to a stable and register it. It really helps speed up traversal, and players can customize it with various cosmetics. There are also loads of unique horses scattered across Hyrule that players will want to try their hardest to obtain.
It does not seem like Diablo 4 and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom would have anything in common. One is a dark and dreary ARPG while the other one is a vast family-friendly open-world action-adventure title. However, their mounts seem to share a lot in common. Not only do they both help speed up traversal, but they can also both be customized with an assortment of goodies and are obtained by traversing their massive open worlds.
Diablo 4 and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom feature loads of cosmetics that players can use to deck out their horses. None of the cosmetics change the mount's functionality, but they do give players a bit of control over how it looks. Both games have different saddles that can be equipped on the mounts at the stables, and they also reward players with cosmetics depending on what the player does. Diablo 4 rewards players with Mount Trophies for accomplishing different feats while Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom rewards players with Pony Points that unlock new customization options. While they are vastly different reward tracks, the concept is very similar.
Diablo 4 and Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom are also filled with unique mounts waiting to be discovered. Diablo 4 mounts are dropped by various enemies around the world while Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom mounts are found grazing in specific areas. Both games reward players with new mounts as they explore the world and provide cosmetics to back them up. They may be vastly different games, but they seem to share an unbreakable bond when it comes to their mounts, and hopefully more games will take some notes.
Diablo 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
