Despite being faced with an onslaught of ARPG competitors over the past couple of years, Diablo 4 has endured well into the ongoing Sins of the Horadrim season. However, as interest in Diablo 4 Season 9 begins to fade, a new contender has risen to challenge its crown in the form of Titan Quest 2. The shadow drop of Titan Quest 2's early access was a massive treat for fans of the genre, but the game is still missing some features that give Diablo 4 the advantage for the time being.

The nature of an early access title means that players expect the game to be missing a portion of the content planned for the final release. Even in early access, Titan Quest 2 has enough content for players to sink their teeth into that Diablo 4 fans burnt out on Season 9 will have plenty to enjoy during the wait for Season 10. While Diablo 4 may have the edge over Titan Quest 2 for its lack of certain features at the moment, it could end up eclipsing Diablo 4 as more content is added throughout the early access period.

Features Currently Missing from Titan Quest 2's Early Access

  • Character Customization
  • Transmogs and Cosmetics
  • Crafting and Affix Rerolling
  • Co-op Gameplay

While none of the features missing from Titan Quest 2 in its current state are deal-breakers, their addition would certainly be welcome sooner rather than later. Currently, Titan Quest 2 players can only choose from a selection of pre-made characters, and there is no option for gear transmogs or customized cosmetics. Diablo 4 has a very robust cosmetics catalog due to its premium shop and Reliquaries system, and while this monetization practice is controversial, it gives players tons of options for character customization that Titan Quest 2 is missing.

More necessary than cosmetic options is Titan Quest 2's need for gear crafting and affix upgrades. A pivotal part of any ARPG's endgame is honing a build with its optimal gear stats and affixes, which has already been nailed down in Diablo 4 with its Tempering and Masterworking systems. Co-op also being absent from Titan Quest 2 also makes Diablo 4 the better option for players looking to group up with friends.

Titan Quest 2 hasn't released an official roadmap, but the developers have stated that character customization, transmogs, affix rerolls, and co-op are planned for sometime in the future.

Despite Titan Quest 2 missing some features that Diablo 4 has already implemented, the ceiling for Titan Quest 2 to shatter is low. Diablo 4's co-op content is relatively thin, with its most exciting multiplayer activity, the Dark Citadel, being locked behind the Vessel of Hatred DLC. Using Diablo 4's party finder feature for tackling Lair Bosses with a team is great in theory, but there aren't proper safeguards to ensure players joining a party get what they are signing up for, leaving room for Diablo 4's co-op features to be improved.

Titan Quest 2 also has the chance to one-up Diablo 4's affix rerolling system and learn from the mistakes of Tempering and Masterworking. Tempering in Diablo 4 can be an exercise in frustration, given that players only have a limited number of rerolls before the item becomes bricked. Masterworking can be incredibly resource-intensive if RNG is not on the player's side, forcing them to constantly reset their Masterworked item to try and roll its ideal upgrade. Although Titan Quest 2 players are stuck using their gear's base affixes for the time being, at least they don't have to go through the headache of trying to gamble their resources for the perfect affix upgrades.
