While Diablo 4 fans may be waiting some time for the game's next major expansion, which isn't planned for release until 2026, there may be other surprises in store for the game in the meantime. Blizzard recently released the 2025 roadmap for Diablo 4, and while it didn't wow many fans, there were a few treats for players to look forward to. However, there is one unrevealed release that could be even more exciting than anything listed on this roadmap, and it would involve the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Although nothing has been confirmed, a Diablo 4 Switch 2 release would be a great way to tap into a new audience for the ARPG. While the Diablo series hasn't always been associated with Nintendo, the Switch paved the way for this partnership to be so with releases like Diablo 3: Eternal Collection and Diablo 2: Resurrected on the platform. With major third-party titles like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 confirmed for Switch 2 ports, it seems like Diablo 4 would fit right at home on the console, and repeat a feat that Diablo 3's Switch 1 release pulled off.

Diablo 4 Could Be to the Switch 2 What Diablo 3 Was to Its Predecessor

Diablo 3 on the Switch Was the Series' First Nintendo Console Appearance

Diablo is most often associated with PC gaming, with the first two games rising to acclaim on the platform before Diablo 3 made the jump to consoles on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012. More recently, the series has found a new home on the Nintendo Switch with Diablo 3: Eternal Collection releasing on the console in 2018, and Diablo 2: Resurrected released for it later in 2021. Diablo 3 on the Switch marked an important point for Nintendo fans, as it was the first time a game in the franchise was playable on a Nintendo console.

Diablo 3: Eternal Collection included the base game plus the Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer expansions.

Diablo 3: Eternal Collection also came at the perfect time for the Switch, releasing just over a year after the console launched and bringing with it exclusive Zelda-themed content for Switch players, including Ganondorf transmog armor, Cucco pet, Triforce portrait frame, and The Echoes of the Mask wings. The ARPG formula of Diablo 3 was ideal for the pick-up-and-play style of gaming that the Switch offered, and Diablo 2: Resurrected coming to the console on day one showed that the platform was the Diablo series' perfect home. Unfortunately, Diablo 4 has not made its way to the Switch, likely due to the console's aging hardware, but the Switch 2's improved specs may be just what the game needs to finally release on a Nintendo console.

Diablo 4 Getting a Switch 2 Release Could Warrant a New amiibo

One of the best parts of Diablo 3's Switch release was that a special Loot Goblin amiibo was released alongside it. While amiibo are most famously utilized by first-party Nintendo titles to add extra content to certain games, there have been a handful of third-party amiibo released in the past, including Diablo 3's Loot Goblin. If Diablo 4 were to get a Switch 2 port, releasing an associated amiibo would be a great way to entice players to pick up the game on the new platform.

Diablo 4 could release on the Switch 2 as a bundle with the Vessel of Hatred expansion, much like how Diablo 3: Eternal Collection featured its expansions.

The hype for amiibo may have mostly died down, but the Switch 2 still has plans for the NFC-compatible figures, and several third-party amiibo have already been confirmed for the console. Aside from new amiibo for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Street Fighter 6 is also receiving a series of amiibo figures and cards for its Switch 2 port, opening the door for more third-party developers to create figures for their own games. A Diablo 4 release on the Switch 2 in the interim between major expansions that brings a new amiibo figure with it would surely be cause for excitement among Nintendo and Diablo fans alike.
