A Diablo 4 player highlighted that an ice Sorcerer build can result in less experience gained from mobs that create new enemies upon death. Like the other Diablo 4 classes, there are multiple paths Sorcerer can take while progressing through the game, with ice being less lucrative for experience in certain areas of Sanctuary.
The Sorcerer is joined by the Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, and Rogue in classes a new Diablo 4 player will choose between upon launching the game. While the Sorcerer offers similar skills to the Diablo 2 Sorceress, there are some critical differences between the two iterations of element-wielders. Noting one of the specific changes with the Diablo 4 Sorcerer, a player has warned future Sorcerers about a potential build that may haunt them.
Reddit user Chozo007 has discovered a correlation between a Diablo 4 ice Sorcerer build and experience losses, specifically when shattering frozen spider hosts. As the spider host is shattered, their minions that are created upon death don't spawn, and Chozo007 isn't able to acquire the XP they would have gotten if they killed the creature in an alternative way. According to Chozo007, they didn't figure out the level-grinding ice Sorcerer flaw until they passed level 90, and they were gaining less than half of what they would have in these spider dungeons if they used an alternative build.
Diablo 4 players can encounter spider hosts in Boulder Ridge and the Fractured Peaks, and they should avoid shattering these enemies when grinding for experience. Giant Spiders will also create their own minions by implanting eggs in dead bodies, but because it dies in a normal way, the shatter issue impacting spider hosts shouldn't affect the creature. In order to avoid losing more Diablo 4 experience like Chozo007, they may want to go with a fire or lightning build, or at least one that avoids freezing and shattering enemies.
Although Chozo007 has seen fewer experience gains in Diablo 4 due to some mobs not spawning as they should, they likely still received the bonus XP for clearing a room which may help offset some of the losses. Given that Blizzard continues to update Diablo 4 as players wait for season 1, the enemies that create more mobs upon death may be patched to offer all the experience at once for ice Sorcerers that shatter their foes.
Diablo 4 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
