[UPDATE: According to Blizzard, the DDoS attack has come to an end. Original story follows.]
Diablo 4 servers are currently down, June 25, due to an ongoing DDoS attack. As of this writing, the servers have been down for roughly three hours, and it's unsure when it will end. Some players may be able to get through, but Blizzard is tracking the issue and its impact on latency and connection with Diablo 4.
It's worth noting that this is not Diablo 4's first serious server outage. It happens from time to time with all live service games, and since its early access release, Diablo 4 has had one genuine outage back on June 8. Yesterday though, June 24, it was noted and tracked by Blizzard that Diablo 4's servers were encountering issues, likely leading into and/or tied into the current DDoS attack. For the uninitiated, a DDoS attack is defined as a "malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic.
Players who jump on Battle.net are receiving messages regarding this DDoS attack, with Blizzard also sharing it on social media. It's unfortunate for those who only have time to play video games on weekends, as this is a huge dent in any possible Diablo 4 playtime.
Blizzard has not given any indication as to when it expects this outage to end, only stating that it is actively working on fixing the issue, but this is also obviously not the company's fault. Many will likely be quick to point their anger at the company, although that anger is misplaced. After all, this DDoS outage also means that Blizzard employees are likely in an "all hands on deck" mode, and many may be losing an off-day as a result of this DDoS attack. For now, fans may wish to check out other games until Blizzard gives the all-clear and practice a little patience for everyone impacted by this.
Diablo 4's popularity speaks for itself, and that shows in every player upset by this DDoS attack. Luckily, the future is as bright as it can be. Diablo 4 season 1 is set to release sometime in July, ushering in even more content for diehard ARPG players to get their fill of.
Diablo 4 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
