After a rocky first few seasons, Diablo 4 looks to be turning things around ahead of Season 4 thanks to the introduction of the PTR, or Public Test Realm, which allows players to test builds of the game while they are still in development so that Blizzard can use feedback to make adjustments ahead of release. However, due to an in-development build of Diablo 4 Season 4 existing on the PTR, some players have been able to datamine information about the upcoming season before its official release. As a result, there are some clues that have been uncovered that point towards Diablo 4 Season 4's theme, along with some of the new items and cosmetics.
Diablo 4 Season 4 was initially set to launch on April 16, close to the game's Xbox Game Pass release on March 28. However, Blizzard announced during a recent Campfire Chat that the start date for Season 4 would be pushed back to May 14 to give the developers time to respond to player feedback after the launch of the PTR on April 2. Many players have been happy with this change and are excited about the gameplay overhaul coming in Diablo 4 Season 4, but the seasonal theme had eluded players up until this recent datamine.
Everything Datamined from Diablo 4's Public Test Realm Ahead of Season 4
Diablo 4 Season 4 Appears to Be Focused on the Iron Wolves
Based on assets found in a datamine of Diablo 4's PTR, it seems like Season 4 will revolve around the Iron Wolves faction in some way. The Iron Wolves are a major faction of mercenaries in the Diablo franchise that have historically been based out of Kehjistan and who made a name for themselves defending Kurast against a demonic invasion. In Diablo 2, they serve as hirable mercenaries available to join players on their quest, while in Diablo 3 and Diablo 4 they make minor appearances as NPCs.
Many of the items datamined from Diablo 4's PTR make reference to the Iron Wolves, and assets like seasonal UI icons that bear a striking resemblance to the Iron Wolves' logo have been uncovered. These discoveries are strong signs that Diablo 4 Season 4 will heavily feature the Iron Wolves in some way, but just how they will be involved has yet to be seen. Some fans have speculated that Blizzard is planning to bring back the ability to hire Iron Wolf mercenaries as companions based on this leaked Season 4 theme, but this theory has not been officially confirmed.
Leaked Diablo 4 Season 4 Items and Characters
The seasonal reputation reward items uncovered in the datamine of Diablo 4's PTR suggest a season themed around the Iron Wolves is on the way based on items that appear with names like "Iron Wolves' Glove Case" and "Iron Wolves' Herb Supply." There also appear to be references to Diablo 4's reworked Helltides, such as an elixir that increases the level of Helltide enemies, suggesting that Helltides might play a more prominent role in the upcoming season. On top of these items and reputation rewards, the datamine also points towards the new seasonal story NPC being someone named Soudeh.
Leaked Diablo 4 Season 4 Cosmetics
A handful of new cosmetic items from Diablo 4 Season 4's Battle Pass have also been datamined, and include new armor transmogs that look to give player characters what appear to be white tunics with floral crowns. Conversely, the gruesome Hellseeker armor set has also been datamined, which gives players skeletal armor drenched in blood and viscera. Information about the new uber unique armor piece Tyrael's Might has also been uncovered, giving players their first glimpse at how this classic Diablo armor will look in Diablo 4.
