Blizzard has already shared some details about the upcoming Diablo 4 Season 12 with the PTR patch notes released via the games official blog. While some Diablo 4 players are sure to be excited about the return of killstreaks from Diablo 3, there's a lot more to enjoy in the coming season than just this new mechanic. In particular, Diablo 4 Season 12 is breaking a trend that began following the release of Vessel of Hatred with the new Uniques coming when the season launches.
Diablo 4 Season 12 is in the awkward position of being sandwiched between the release of the Paladin class in Diablo 4 Season 11 and the Lord of Hatred expansion coming in Season 13. As such, the expectations for Season 12 should be tempered a bit, with the massive changes coming in Lord of Hatred on the horizon. There is still plenty to be excited about in Diablo 4 Season 12, especially with a new batch of Uniques that transcend any one class for the first time since Season 6 back in October 2024.
‘The Aura Sandwich’ Diablo 4 Devs Explain the Process of Modernizing Diablo 2’s Paladin
Diablo 4's Paladin has come a long way from its Diablo 2 incarnation, and the development team had to strike a balance between the old and the new.
Diablo 4 Season 12 is Adding More General Uniques For the First Time Since Season 6
The addition of new Uniques is a major part of each Diablo 4 season since launch, though some seasons have added more than others. While the first few seasons of Diablo 4 bolstered the line-up of Uniques available for players to obtain, things have declined in the past few seasons, with most only adding 1 new class-specific Unique for each one of Diablo 4's classes.
Diablo 4 Season 11 added 22 new Uniques for the Paladin since it was a brand-new class that needed to keep up with the number of Uniques available for the other 6 classes.

Three of the five new Diablo 4 Season 12 Uniques are usable by all Diablo 4 classes, while two are used by multiple classes. Rather than giving one new Unique to each class, the addition of more general Uniques should help with meta build diversity in the upcoming season, since classes will have multiple new Uniques to try. In particular, the builds for Necromancer and Druid will have the pick of the lot, since those classes are the only ones able to utilize every new Unique in Diablo 4 Season 12. And with the Paladin getting hit with some nerfs next season, it could be these two classes that emerge at the top of the Season 12 meta.
Some Diablo 4 Season 12 Uniques Look Like Meta Contenders Ahead of Lord of Hatred
The new Uniques in Diablo 4 Season 12 look to be setting the stage for Lord of Hatred's content ahead of the new expansion's release. Among these new Uniques, a few stick out as meta-defining pieces of gear that could become mainstays on builds well after Lord of Hatred launches. In particular, the Wyrdskin Unique Gloves have a fantastic affix that can be almost universally valuable, since all classes can benefit from debuffing enemies with Vulnerable and Weakened.
There will also likely be another wave of new Uniques for the second Diablo 4 class coming with the Lord of Hatred expansion, which will be able to take advantage of these new general Uniques as well. In preparation for this release, it's possible that Blizzard wanted to flood the game with more general and multiclass Uniques to give this new class access to a variety of gear without having to overload Season 13 with too many class-specific Uniques for it.
