With Diablo 4 over the mid-Season 9 hump, eyes are starting to turn toward what Blizzard has in store for Season 10. Although Diablo 4 Season 10 is not slated to begin until September 23, this point in the season usually marks the start of new seasonal changes coming to Diablo 4's PTR. However, unlike past seasons, updates about new Season 10 content won't be coming in livestream form, potentially signaling a disappointing shift for the game.
Instead of the Season 10 PTR livestream, Blizzard is opting to do a Sanctuary Sitdown Q&A on the game's official Discord server, coupled with a blog post detailing the seasonal changes. August 14 will be the date Diablo 4 players can participate in the Discord Q&A, so fans will soon get a better idea of the direction Season 10 is headed in. This change in presentation may seem like a blip on the radar for fans who aren't as plugged into the Diablo 4 community, but it could also be a sign that Season 10 may be lighter on new content than previous seasons.
Diablo 4 Season 10 Skipping a Developer Livestream Should Have Fans Tempering Expectations
No Diablo 4 Season 10 PTR Livestream May Point Toward a Weaker Season
The obvious concern when hearing that there won't be a developer livestream for Diablo 4 Season 10 is that this news could mean there isn't enough new content coming next season to justify dedicating an entire livestream to it. While this may be partly true, the 2025 Roadmap for Diablo 4 already reveals some of the planned Season 10 changes, including:
- Chaos Powers
- Infernal Hordes Update
- Earnable Pet
- IP Collab
The Chaos Powers confirmed for Season 10 seem to follow the recent seasonal gimmick trend of introducing season-specific abilities like Boss Powers in Season 8 or Horadric Spells in Season 9. As such, there may not be as much of a need for a deep dive into how this seasonal mechanic will work, since players likely have a solid grasp of the idea based on similar features in the past few seasons.
More interesting is the Infernal Hordes Update, which could follow in the footsteps of Nightmare Dungeons in Season 9, where Escalating Nightmares added a new twist on the established feature. How the Infernal Hordes will be updated will likely be revealed in the Sanctuary Sitdown, but this is a situation where the lack of livestreamed gameplay makes it feel like the update won't be anything too significant. Based on past seasons, the earnable pet and IP collab are sure to be cosmetic only, with the IP collab potentially not even being revealed until later into Season 10, like Diablo 4's Berserk collab was for Season 8.
A Weak Season 10 May Be a Necessary Evil for Diablo 4's Next Expansion to Shine
While it definitely seems like there could be some aspects of Diablo 4 Season 10 worth showcasing on a livestream, the majority of the new content could likely fit into a blog post, depending on how in-depth the Chaos Powers mechanic and Infernal Hordes Update are. Diablo 4 has seen a steady stream of seasons since its launch over two years ago, despite some highs and lows among them. So, even if Season 10 is one of these lows, there is still another high on the horizon for players to keep their eyes on.
It's possible that Season 10 is a sacrificial lamb of sorts while the majority of the dev team's attention is on completing Diablo 4's next expansion. A similar situation occurred prior to the release of Vessel of Hatred, where Season 5 was somewhat lackluster before Season 6 came out swinging when Vessel of Hatred was released. Diablo 4's 2025 Roadmap ends with Season 10, and teases DLC 2 in 2026, meaning it's possible this could just be the calm before the storm, and a new expansion is just around the corner.
