It's no secret that Diablo 4's crossover events have not lived up to their full potential. Diablo 4 Season 8's Berserk collab sparked controversy for the high prices of its exclusive skins while offering little in the way of free content for players to enjoy. Now with Diablo 4 Season 10 scheduled to receive another IP collab, the ball is back in Blizzard's court to deliver the slam dunk it has fouled up in the past.
Luckily, Diablo 4 already has the ideal inspiration to pull from with its upcoming Season 10 crossover, and it comes from a place very close to home. The mobile title Diablo Immortal recently launched its Heroes of the Hearth event as a crossover with Blizzard's popular card-battler Hearthstone. While this collab may be "internal" to Blizzard's library of games, it paints a clear picture of what the ideal Diablo 4 crossover event could look like, regardless of which IP the game collabs with.
Diablo Immortal's Hearthstone Crossover Event Should Be a Blueprint for Future Diablo 4 Collabs
Heroes of the Hearth is a Game Changer for Diablo Immortal
Diablo Immortal players are currently being treated to one of the best collabs the game has ever seen, with Heroes of the Hearth not only paying homage to iconic Hearthstone characters and cards, but offering new gameplay mechanics and game modes for players to enjoy as well. While the Malfurion Stormrage and Tyrande Whisperwind cosmetics are an expected part of an IP collab, the real meat of the Heroes of the Hearth event comes from the cards players can earn that augment gameplay and combat abilities. There are 18 cards that Diablo Immortal players can earn, including:
- Mage: Polymorph & Ice Block
- Warrior: Bash & Blade Storm
- Hunter: Explosive Trap & Snake Trap
- Priest: Holy Nova & Shadow Form
- Warlock: Flame Imp & Defile
- Shaman: Windfury & Lightning Storm
- Paladin: Blessing of Wisdom & Lay on Hands
- Druid: Swipe & Ancient of Lore
- Rogue: Backstab & Preparation
While players can purchase Hearthstone-themed bundles from the Diablo Immortal shop to earn these cards, they can also be earned simply by playing the game.
These cards can then be used in new, limited-time game modes like Trials of the Hearth and the Enchanted Planes. Both of these game modes utilize the augments provided by the cards to give Diablo Immortal players a remixed experience that emphasizes strategic use of the cards' powers for success. Including both a cosmetic and a gameplay component makes Heroes of the Hearth a well-rounded event that different types of Diablo Immortal players can enjoy, serving as a shining example of what a Diablo series collab can look like.
Diablo 4's Past IP Collabs Leave a Lot to Be Desired
In contrast to Diablo Immortal, Diablo 4's crossovers have been somewhat lackluster. Diablo 4 has only seen two IP collabs so far—one with World of Warcraft in Fall 2024 and one with Berserk in April 2025—both of which only offered cosmetics based on the properties. Players uninterested in paying for these cosmetics could largely ignore the events entirely, making them feel like missed opportunities to integrate them into seasonal gameplay mechanics for every player to appreciate.
Diablo Immortal also had a collab with Berserk that featured a limited-time boss and Eclipse game mode on top of themed cosmetics, showing that Diablo 4 consistently gets the short end of the collab stick.
Diablo 4 Season 10 Has the Perfect Chance to Correct Course
The next Diablo 4 IP collab is slated for Season 10, according to the 2025 roadmap released by Blizzard earlier this year. While the IP Diablo 4 will be crossing over with during Season 10 hasn't yet been revealed, it may be hard for some players to get excited about it given what they've come to expect from past collabs. However, Blizzard also has the chance to draw from the popularity of Diablo Immortal's Heroes of the Hearth event and design a Season 10 IP collab that is more in line with what the mobile title has received.
