While there is a lot of hype surrounding Chaos Armor heading into Diablo 4 Season 10, the Chaos Perk system shouldn't be glossed over. More than just a new seasonal power, Diablo 4 players will be able to augment how their entire build functions with Chaos Perks. However, not all Chaos Perks are created equal, and one class in particular misses out on having a game-changing Unique Chaos Perk.
Each Diablo 4 class is capable of using the 12 general Chaos Perks, broken down into 3 Magic, 3 Rare, 3 Legendary, and 3 Unique quality perks. Additionally, every class has one exclusive perk of each quality as well, for a total of 16 Chaos Perks Diablo 4 players can choose to use on their builds in Season 10. Only one Unique perk can be used at a time, and Barbarian players may want to opt for one of the general Chaos Perks over the class's exclusive one.
Barbarians Have an Unfortunate Unique Chaos Perk in Diablo 4 Season 10
With the Diablo 4 Barbarian coming off an underwhelming Season 9 meta placement, the class has the chance to step things up in Season 10. However, utilizing its Unique Single-Minded Fury Chaos Perk likely isn't part of the Barbarian's recipe for success this season. On paper, the perk looks middling at best, and its Diablo 4 Season 10 PTR performance confirmed that players are better off without it.
Single-Minded Fury Won't Move the Needle Much
-
If you only have one Arsenal Weapon type equipped, gain the following:
- +30-50% Overpower Chance
- +150-250% Increased Bleed Duration
- +75-125% Maximum Life
- +150-250[x] Increased Damage
At a glance, it seems like increases to Overpower Chance, Bleed Duration, Maximum Life, and Damage make this Chaos Perk worth using. However, the trade-off is that Barbarians have to use only one weapon type. So to get the most out of this perk, players will need to sacrifice their two-handed weapons to go all-in on one-handed ones. As a result, the Barbarian loses out on potentially build-defining Legendary Two-Handed Weapon Aspects for blanket damage increases that pale in comparison to what is possible with something like the Earthquake Aspect or a Mythic Two-Handed Weapon like The Grandfather.
Even after the small buff Single-Minded Fury got in the Diablo 4 Season 10 patch notes, it likely won't be strong enough to sacrifice using two-handed weapons for.
How Barbarian Players Can Still Salvage Their Chaos Perk Setup in Diablo 4 Season 10
It's not all doom and gloom for Barbarians in Diablo 4 Season 10, because they can still access some solid Chaos Perks aside from Single-Minded Fury. In terms of Unique Chaos Perks, Chaos Unleashed seems like a universally beneficial perk for nearly all classes:
- Killing an enemy generates 2 stacks of Chaos and dealing direct damage to a boss generates 5 stacks of Chaos. At 100 stacks, unleash a salvo of 9 Chaotic Bursts, dealing 300-500% of your highest damage type.
- Your Chaotic Bursts gain 30%[+] Critical Strike Chance, and deal 100-200%[x] increased damage.
Additionally, the Barbarian's exclusive Legendary Chaos Perk, Deafening Chorus, will be a must-use perk on most builds due to its ability to make Shouts permanently active with increased effectiveness.
- Your equipped Shouts are now always active with 30-50%[x] increased effect, but your Maximum Current Fury is reduced by 20% per Shout equipped.
Most Diablo 4 Barbarian builds balance Shouts with offensive skills, so being able to have them permanently active can free up the player's skill rotation to focus on avoiding attacks and engaging enemies with offensive skills. The reduced Maximum Current Fury is a worthy trade-off to keep the buffs from Shouts active at all times. So even if players end up steering clear of Single-Minded Fury in their Unique Chaos Perk slot, the class still has some exclusive perks worth slotting into a build.
Defeaning Chorus was even buffed in the Diablo 4 Season 10 patch notes, bringing the increased effect of Shouts up from 20-40% to 30-50%.
