Though Diablo 4 is a more refined game at release compared to Diablo 3 during its troubled launch, players do miss one of its many convenient features in the new Blizzard title. From the disappointing treasure goblins in Diablo 4, to the way Legendary Powers work through the Aspect system, there are many examples where fans feel Diablo 3 had the better approach. Thankfully, the developers have shown during the Campfire Chat that they're willing to listen to the Diablo community, and acquiesce to most of their demands.
With Diablo 4's inaugural season commencing in mid-July, players will receive the first batch of fixes aimed at bettering the game. Though players are expected to make new characters for every Diablo 4 season, some are hopeful that Blizzard will reconsider implementing the Rebirth feature from Diablo 3. The combat in Diablo 4 is certainly a standout, with many fans considering it as the perfect balance between the weightiness of Diablo 2, and the power fantasy of Diablo 3. Its biggest issue remains a lack of convenience in the systems that surround the moment-to-moment gameplay.
A decent way to increase convenience would be to take a look at another beloved feature from Diablo 3. Delling_Rembran opened a simple thread on the official Diablo 4 subreddit, and it showed that Diablo 4 players sorely miss the loot-collecting pets from the previous game. The initial iteration of this feature came in the form of the Puzzle Ring, which gave players a treasure goblin minion to collect trash items and gold off the ground, before spitting it up as a Rare or Legendary. It has since evolved to feature many different pets, and has become a staple of Diablo 3's endgame.
Though there is an argument to be made that making a game too convenient strips away some of its appeal, the lack of many quality-of-life features in Diablo 4 gives the impression that its gameplay systems clash against one another instead of working in harmony. Proposed concepts such as expanding the Codex of Power, implementing a gem bag, and even adding loot pets would help in streamlining Diablo 4 without taking away its gameplay loop.
Ultimately, Diablo 4 being a live service title may prove to be its biggest benefit in the long run, as the developers will be provided with enough resources to evolve the game into the ultimate Diablo experience. Many players would agree that the potential is certainly there, and with two Diablo 4 expansions on the way, there are plenty of directions for growth.
Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
