Artificer Stones are a type of late-game currency in Diablo 4 that gives players access to the Pit of Artificers, one of the endgame activities where players can push their builds to their limits. It also serves as the main progression blocker that dictates whether or not a player is worthy of increasing their Torment level.

While it may be tempting to farm or push Pit levels all day, one can only access the Pit of Artificers if they have Artificer Stones on-hand. These aren't terribly hard to get, but if you don't know where to look, you might find yourself without any Artificer Stones at all.

Where to Find Artificer Stones in Diablo 4

Diablo 4 Artificer Stones

The good thing about Artificer Stones is that they drop pretty much everywhere once you hit max level. You have a chance to get Artificer Stones by doing the following:

  • Farming Helltides
  • Completing Legion Events, Infernal Hordes, and Kurast Undercity runs
  • Clearing Nightmare Dungeons
  • Opening Whisper caches

The best place to get Artificer Stones in Diablo 4 depends on what other things your character needs. Helltides are generally good for getting Artificer Stones (and loot in general) — run around, complete events, and open Helltide chests, and you're bound to get some stones for your efforts. Make sure to go to Helltides with active Whisper Bounties for maximum earnings.

If you're more concerned with getting materials like Obducite, then Nightmare Dungeons, Infernal Hordes and Kurast Undercity runs may be the better option. Nightmare Dungeons can be completed fairly quickly, especially if you have a good build that can clear things fast. However, Kurast Undercity and Infernal Hordes tend to be more lucrative.

Using Artificer Stones

In order to open a Pit of Artificers portal, you need three Artificer Stones. This portal will only be valid for that specific run, which means you'll need more stones if you want to open another portal.

The Pit of Artificers has over 100 levels of difficulty, and as mentioned earlier, if you want to increase your Torment level, you'll need to clear specific Pit levels. Enemies become deadlier and harder to kill as the Pit level increases, so make sure to tweak your build by getting new items or using the Masterworking system.

Completing a Pit run rewards you with the usual shower of loot, which usually includes legendary gear (with possible Unique drops). However, the most important thing you can get from the Pit of Artificers is the opportunity to level up your Paragon Glyphs, which you can do by interacting with the small altar that appears at the end of a successful run.
