With Diablo 4 now in its first season, many players have had the chance to try out builds on all five of the game's classes, leaving them eager for Blizzard to add a sixth class in a future update. While it is very likely Diablo 4 will receive a new class in the future as past entries like Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 introduced new classes along with their major content expansion, there is still speculation as to what this class might be. Narrowing down where this major content expansion for Diablo 4 will take place reveals a potential suspect for the game's sixth class.
Expansions for past entries in the series have included new classes along with new regions for players to explore. Diablo 2's Lord of Destruction expansion added the Druid and Assassin classes along with Mount Arreat as a new location, and Diablo 3 added the Crusader class and region of Westmarch in its Reaper of Souls expansion. Given the hints and rumors about where Diablo 4's first major content expansion will take place, it seems very possible that the Amazon could return from Diablo 2 as the sixth class added to the game.
Why the Amazon Could Be Diablo 4's Sixth Class
The Amazon originally hails from Diablo 2 as one of the base game's starting classes which utilizes both bows and spears. Although there are similarities between Diablo 4's Rogue and Diablo 2's Amazon, such as the Inner Sight ability and use of element-imbued arrows, the Amazon's use of spears and javelins could make them distinct enough from the Rogue to fit in Diablo 4 if reworked slightly. The addition of the Amazon would also mark the first polearm user in Diablo 4, making this class all the more likely to appear in a future expansion.
There is solid evidence to suggest that a future Diablo 4 expansion will take players south of Kehjistan to the ancient city of Kurast and the neighboring Torajan Jungle. If Diablo 4's first major content expansion is set in this iconic location from Diablo 2, it would be the perfect opportunity to introduce the Amazon class alongside it. Not only would the addition of both Kurast as a location and the Amazon as a class continue Diablo 4's homage to Diablo 2, but the Amazon class in particular has ties to this locale as a member of the seafaring Askari who were one of the first tribes to make contact with the region.
Additionally, Amazons are traditionally hunters that are associated with jungles, giving the class an even greater connection to this location. While many expect Diablo Immortal's new Blood Knight class to make its way into Diablo 4 given their connection to the city of Gea Kul, Blizzard may want to keep this class exclusive to the mobile title and offer the Amazon as an alternative polearm user for Diablo 4 players. With how much Diablo 4 pulls from Diablo 2, the Amazon ends up being as strong of a contender for Diablo 4's sixth class as the Blood Knight.
Interestingly enough, the Amazon was originally considered for addition to Diablo 3 as a part of the game's hero pack model but was passed up in favor of the Necromancer instead. Perhaps Blizzard will want to right this wrong and feature the Amazon in Diablo 4 alongside the Necromancer of the base game. A spear or polearm user would be a welcome addition to Diablo 4, and the Amazon fits that bill and would be right at home in a potential expansion set across Kurast and the Torajan Jungles to the south of Diablo 4's map.
Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
