Diablo 4 has always been about getting the best possible loot, and Season 11 doubles down on that by adding Hadriel's Heavenly Forge, a place where you can make your best gear even better through Sanctification. The angels of the High Heavens are finally getting involved again, and while the help they can provide is limited, even a minor change to your BiS gear can spell a massive difference.
Beefing your gear up in Hadriel's forge is a pretty simple process, but it can be a little confusing at first. In this guide, we'll be going over how you can Sanctify your gear in Diablo 4 as well as some of the important bits related to the process itself, such as the limitations of Sanctification and the requirements you need to meet.

How to Use the Heavenly Forge in Diablo 4
You can get to the Heavenly Forge by using the angelic portal in any of the main cities in the game. Here, you'll find Hadriel and a bunch of craftsmen surrounding the forge itself.
Now, when you interact with the Heavenly Forge, either nothing will happen (likely caused by network lag), or a Sanctification menu will appear. Here, you can place an item into the open slot and Sanctify it, but before you can lock it in, you'll first need to get a Heavenly Sigil.
Sanctifying an item will grant it one random upgrade of some sort. So far, we've gotten the following effects from Sanctification:
- A random affix gets upgraded into a Greater Affix
- An item's quality gets fully upgraded
- The effect of any gem slotted into the item gets massively increased
- The item gets a completely new (and often powerful) affix
There's only one catch with Sanctification: a Sanctified item in Diablo 4 can no longer be modified in any way, shape or form. That means you won't be able to Temper or Masterwork it anymore, nor will you be able to change its Legendary Aspect, add sockets, and so on. Make absolutely sure that you no longer need to change anything with the item you want to upgrade.
Where to Get Heavenly Sigils in Diablo 4
Heavenly Sigils can drop from the following sources:
- World Bosses
- Bartuc from Infernal Hordes
- Dark Citadel caches
- Kurast Undercity runs
- Helltide Tortured Gifts
- The Pit of the Artificer
- Resplendent Chests
Occasionally, a portal to the Heavenly Forge will open up after you finish an activity like a Nightmare Dungeon or Helltide boss encounter. This means that you get one free use of the forge's Sanctification service. This is a one-time offer for that specific moment, meaning that if you leave the portal alone, you'll lose that chance for a free Sanctification.
