With Diablo 2: Resurrected released on Steam for the first time, players have the chance to track their progress through the game with Steam Achievements. Not every Steam Achievement for Diablo 2: Resurrected is a walk in the park, and players have discovered that one of the game's most difficult achievements is nearly impossible to obtain. As such, Diablo 2: Resurrected fans hoping to 100% the game on Steam will have their work cut out for them, and this tall task will likely take much longer than some players might expect.
The recently released Reign of the Warlock DLC for Diablo 2: Resurrected marks the game's first brand-new content in almost 25 years. Not only is the new Warlock class a complete game-changer for existing Diablo 2: Resurrected owners, thanks to its unique demon-binding ability, but new Diablo 2 players can access the game on Steam for the first time ever. While Diablo 4 has been available on Valve's storefront since October 2023, it's taken Diablo 2: Resurrected 5 years to come to Steam since the remaster was released in 2021.

The Steam Achievements for Diablo 2: Resurrected range in difficulty, including fairly straightforward ones like Complete Act 1, defeat 500 enemies, and socket a gem into an item. The majority of Diablo 2: Resurrected players have already earned these achievements, and they are likely some of the first that new players will accomplish. On the other end of the spectrum, feats like reaching Level 99 or completing Diablo 2: Resurrected on Hardcore mode are individually tough on their own. However, combining those two and reaching Level 99 on Hardcore mode makes for an insanely hard challenge.

Diablo 2: Resurrected Requires Steam Players to Reach Level 99 on Hardcore
It's clear that reaching Level 99 on Hardcore is by far the hardest Diablo 2: Resurrected Steam Achievement, given that no player has earned it yet, according to Steam's Global Gameplay database. Granted, Diablo 2: Resurrected has only been out on Steam for a little under a week, but the fact that even 0.1% of players have been able to complete the game with each class on Hell difficulty shows just how time-consuming reaching Level 99 on Hardcore can be. The "I'm gonna do what's called a pro gamer move" achievement is a test of great patience combined with careful planning and time, so it's unlikely any Steam D2R player is going to earn it anytime soon.
‘The Aura Sandwich’ Diablo 4 Devs Explain the Process of Modernizing Diablo 2’s Paladin
Diablo 4's Paladin has come a long way from its Diablo 2 incarnation, and the development team had to strike a balance between the old and the new.
Reaching Level 99 on Hardcore is a Nearly Impossible Challenge, Even for the Most Seasoned Diablo 2 Veterans
While new to Steam, these achievements have been around for PlayStation and Xbox Diablo 2: Resurrected players since it was released in 2021. As such, there are players who have made it to Level 99 with a Hardcore character, but even that number is slim. In order to do so, players will have to play Diablo 2 very cautiously, since it can be easy to die from enemies like the infamous Undead Stygian Dolls that explode upon death. Diablo 2's Duriel boss fight is also a frequent Hardcore run killer, so making it past Act 2 on Hardcore is already a feat worth celebrating.
Nothing feels worse than reaching Level 90 in Hardcore mode only to die from something unexpected and have to completely restart Diablo 2: Resurrected just to invest all of that time again. This barrier has kept a lot of Diablo 2 players from ever earning the game's most difficult achievement on other platforms, and will likely continue to do so on Steam as well. The new Warlock class having the ability to bind demons like Hephasto the Armorer in Diablo 2: Resurrected will surely help players reach this goal, but it still may take a while before the first Steam user successfully achieves it.
