Diablo 2 will soon be coming to consoles for the very first time via the Diablo 2: Resurrected remake. Diablo 2 was originally designed for the PC, so developer Vicarious Visions is having to do its best to adapt the ARPG to console controls. Since Vicarious Visions is dedicating itself to authentically recreating Diablo 2, that means some actions are going to be clunky. For example, using the controller to drag gear into place. Unfortunately, it's clearly not an easy process, as at least one major bug/exploit has been discovered.

To provide an example scenario, imagine having another player ask for a trade. They ask for a specific valuable Diablo 2 item and then open up the trade window. As the player drags their rare item to the trade window, a slow process given that they're using a controller instead of a mouse, the trading partner closes the window. The player's rare item doesn't go back into their inventory, but rather drops to the ground. The player didn't click or stop dragging, but the item drops anyway. The trading partner then picks up the item from the ground and leaves the game.

It's easy to see how the Diablo 2: Resurrected bug could be easily exploited. Additionally, even if a player isn't going to be exploited in a trade, it will now be impossible for them to ever trust that a random trading partner will not try and take advantage of them. This bug makes every single trade a huge risk.

Diablo 2: Resurrected players who were part of the game's pre-launch testing say that the bug has been around for a long while now. Further, they say that they haven't seen any indication that Vicarious Visions or Blizzard intends to have the bug fixed by launch. As such, they're spreading the word about the bug now so that players are wary.

There's still plenty of time left for Vicarious Visions or Blizzard to get a fix in for the bug, of course, and clearly this is one bug that really deserves to be squashed. All that fans of Diablo 2 can do is ask for a fix and hope that Vicarious Visions notices and still has time to make changes before the game launches next month.
