Diablo 2: Resurrected - Chronicle Explained

The Chronicle is a new account-wide progression system introduced in Diablo 2: Resurrected - Reign of the Warlock, that tracks down every important item in the game, in a sort of Grail-finding (the classic completionist challenge of the original D2) for those who dare go beyond the end-game content, achieving 100% completion.

To access the Chronicle, players need to use the 'pause menu,' then press the Chronicle button below. This will showcase all their currently collected items and a tracker that they can use to know how many remaining entries they need for every reward.

How to Access The Chronicles Menu in Diablo 2 Resurrected

This system will track down items such as Regular, Magic, Rare, Legendary, Unique, and Set Items, and Runewords, registering when and where players obtained them, and collecting points for a certain final reward, which can include special cosmetics and unlockables.

These cosmetics (skins, effects) are account-wide unlocks, and the progression made with every character counts. That means the world for those who are fans of the Farming Sorceress, and now there's a new reason to try this build and get tons of Uniques and Set Items for their collection.

There are a few things to consider before players start to use the Chronicle System:

  • An item is added to the Chronicle when it is identified in the game where it was found; unidentified items do not count until identified in that same session.
  • Same with Runewords, need to be crafted by socketing them in the right items to be registered.
  • Chronicle tracking does not only work account-wide, but keeps progress through different types of sessions, including multiplayer, online, or offline modes. Separate offline session single-player files will be the sole exception to the rule.
  • All of the previous items obtained prior to the launch of 3.0 (Reign of the Warlock) are not considered for the completion of the Chronicle. There's no way to bypass this, not even by using the Shared tabs in the Stash.

Every Chronicle Reward in Diablo 2: Resurrected & How to Get It

Here's a detailed list of all the Chronicle Rewards in Diablo 2: Resurrected and how to obtain them:

Reward

How to Get

Footsteps - Glow Effect

Earned by completing the Chronicle category for all Set items collected. This gives your character glowing footsteps that visually show your accomplishment.

Backlight - Character Glow (Skin)

Awarded upon completing the Chronicle category for all Unique items collected. Once unlocked, your character displays a unique glow or cosmetic effect.

Town Portal (Skin)

Obtained by completing the Chronicle category for all Runewords created. This changes the appearance of your Town Portal with a distinct skin to showcase your mastery of runeword creation.

As mentioned before, locking into an unidentified item, then talking to Decard Cain (or using a Scroll) on it, will immediately add it to the Chronicle.

Runes and Runewords are a bit different. Players need to socket the Runes into the correct Runeword to make it available in the Chronicle Log.

Set items should be the hardest ones to get, as there's no chance to know how the RNG of the game will respond to the players' attempts to get them all.

However, there are places that are better than others to farm Set Items, and players who are favored by the odds and manage to get them in no time.

It is also important to mention that the Chronicle System as it is, will surely receive periodical updates in every new version of Diablo 2: Resurrected -(after 3.0). This means that new rewards and cosmetics might become available once the devs release new versions of the game.
