Diablo 2: Resurrected tasks the player with eliminating not just Diablo, but his siblings and fellow Prime Evils: Mephisto and Baal. The task is a tall order. Every class is capable of beating them all, but it's clear that some classes require a lot of thought and talent to beat the game with, while others are simpler to succeed with.

Measuring any class in Diablo 2: Resurrected will always leave room for debate. Some characters at the bottom can top the charts against a specific boss or certain elite mob types. Some characters at the top can find themselves without any recourse with an unlucky resistance roll. This Tier-List is a simple breakdown of every class and where they stand in terms of power, utility, and potential for buildcraft.

Updated on February 16, 2026 by Luke Simons: With the release of Reign of The Warlock, Diablo 2: Resurrected introduces a new class after 25 years. Players might think the Warlock is a reversion of the Necromancer, but they would be dire wrong. The Warlock is a powerful hybrid class with access to lots of great spells, debuffs, and arguably, the best end-game kit to deal massive damage in the highest difficulty levels. The following guide has been altered consequently, since the balance of power has changed considerably with the addition of this new class.

Warlock (S+ Tier)

Wielding exceptional AoE bursts, summoning demons or binding them to tank for him, or replicating weapons that can crush enemies and sustain endless barrages of hurt in front of him: The Warlock is a behemoth that can delete Diablo in Hell in just a few seconds. Although its initial kit is a bit lackluster, and it takes some time to snowball, starting at level 6, the Warlock becomes a menace and never stops until every creature and demon in Sanctuary is a pile of ashes (or has a Miasma leash on its neck).

With access to a new status effect (Miasma) that releases clouds of lingering, damaging poison, a ton of debuffs (sigils), and the ability to execute low-health enemies, the Warlock is a force to be reckoned with. This class's passive allows it to wield a Two-Handed weapon with one hand and use a shield or Grimoire (its exclusive item) in the other. Surely, even the most purist veterans will find a reason to like this class, and it will be the beginning of a long-lasting run for them.

Paladin (S-Tier)

Both knight and priest, the Paladin defends the land from the forces of evil with their military training and faith. Unfortunately, a civil war within this Paladins order has forced the character to venture West to seek the Prime Evils and vanquish them once and for all. As such, Paladins arm themselves with weapons that help them smite their foes and auras that help them dominate in combat.

There are some great character builds in Diablo 2: Resurrected, but if the community had to narrow the best ones down to a single, consensus pick, the winner would be the "Hammerdin" Paladin. It takes a while to get geared up with very particular Runewords (Grief Paladin is nearly unstoppable), but once the players have what they need, the Paladin is dominant across all difficulties and against every boss.

Necromancer (A-Tier)

Necromancers study the "Great Cycle of Being." As such, these mages have slowly honed power that links life and death, and death back to life. Thanks to their training, Necromancers are calculating and pragmatic, using everything at their disposal to eliminate threats. As such, they use curses, hexes, and even the dead as their weapons.

With a character build as strong as the summoner or the poison build, the Necromancer is a winning class in all aspects, although it has one major flaw: it's hard to master and heavily reliant on buildcraft, thus, requires lots of rare items to perform well. There are only four ways to overcome enemy immunities, and the Necromancer has three of those four. From start to finish, the Necromancer has a nice gameplay loop, from relying on summoned units to the devastating Corpse Explosion.

Assassin (B-Tier)

Assassins were introduced to Diablo 2 in the Lord of Destruction expansion. Having come from a secret mage-slaying order, Assassins operate from the shadows. They avoid the use of magic and instead rely on magical equipment and traps. As such, they specialize in close-quarters combat with their techniques and special abilities.

The Trapper Assassin "Trapsin" build works incredibly well, although those who want to reach the endgame (Hell Difficulty) should try the Mosaic/Phoenix Strike build since it's currently one of the strongest in the meta. This build relies heavily on one of the newest Runewords introduced with the 2.6 version of the game.

Diablo 3: Every Class, Ranked

Diablo 3 gives players the option to choose one of seven playable classes. We look at all of them and rank them from the worst to the very best!

Barbarian (B-Tier)

The Warrior from Diablo takes on the form of the Barbarian in Diablo 2. Serving as the game's heavy melee tank, Barbarians dominate physical battles. Serving as guardians of Mount Arreat in the game's story, Barbarians heed the call for help when they sense the threat of the Lord of Terror.

His shouts make him a must-have support class for co-op, and his tanking skills are second to none. One of the strongest setups for this class is the Whirlwind build, although it can come a bit short in terms of damage at the highest difficulty levels. Leap makes the class very mobile, but since traditional tanking in Diablo 2: Resurrected isn't wise, the Barbarian finds himself running away more often than engaging directly.

Druid (B-Tier)

Druids specialize in manipulating nature and wildlife. Despite being kin to the Barbarians, Druids have remarkable control over nature. They can amass the power of the wind and plants around them and take on the form of animals.

The biggest fault of the druid is that they are a "jack of all trades, master of none" kind of class. This can be true as they are not capable of summoning as well as a Necromancer, doing physical damage as well as the Amazon, or doing magic damage as well as the Sorceress. However, the Wind build is a fairly strong setup for this class, and with a decent strategy, players can overcome most enemies and difficulty levels in D2R.

Amazon (C-Tier)

The Rogue from Diablo returns as the Amazon class, serving as the ranged specialist. As nomads from tropical islands, Amazons specialize in defending their forests and homes from invaders with their weapon mastery. Like rangers, they employ bows and arrows, crossbows, javelins, and even spears to demonstrate their combat prowess.

The Amazon class finds itself in the middle of this list for a good reason: versatility. There are a lot of builds that players can try and are easy to master, like the javelin build, which has considerable damage and survivability. The Amazon is one of the best picks for newer players and an overall favorite of seasoned veterans.

Sorceress (C-Tier)

The Sorceress serves as the counterpart to Diablo's Sorcerer class. As a member of one of the most powerful mage clans in Sanctuary, the Sorceress is a master of the elements. She's capable of amassing power from fire, lightning, and ice– helping her easily dominate the battlefield. But there is a catch; if she gets bad luck and runs into monsters with magic resistance or immunities, she's in a lot of trouble. Combine this with her natural squishiness, and players will spend more time trying to recover their corpse than actually playing.

But its weakness has a silver lining: Her lightning build is the fastest clearer in the entire game on the toughest difficulties, making it a decent carrier for co-op or a gear farmer for alternate characters. Almost every hardcore Diablo 2: Resurrected player has a Sorceress just to farm gear with.
