The Devil May Cry series has been seeing major sales boosts in light of the Netflix animated series, with the most recent entry now ranking as Capcom’s best-selling game of 2025’s first quarter. Before stunning action game fans with Bayonetta, Hideki Kamiya introduced them to Devil May Cry, which tells the story of a flashy demon slayer named Dante who uses his own supernatural powers to protect the world. So far, there have been five mainline Devil May Cry games, a 2013 reboot, two animated adaptations, and special guest appearances for Dante and other DMC characters in crossover titles like Marvel vs. Capcom.
While Devil May Cry has seen its share of peaks and valleys over the years, the franchise gained a whole new wave of attention after Adi Shankar’s Devil May Cry animated series was released on Netflix in April 2025. Despite some mixed reactions among longtime fans of the games, the Devil May Cry show was a big success, so much so that a second season was announced not too long after the first season premiered. Like Cyberpunk: Edgerunners before it, the Devil May Cry show has also drawn more people to start playing the games that inspired it.
Why Devil May Cry's Controversial Netflix Producer May Actually be a Great Choice For This Game Adaptation
Even if it might prove to be divisive, the producer behind Netflix's Devil May Cry and Castlevania anime could be perfect for another game adaptation.
Devil May Cry games had already enjoyed a spike in player counts on platforms like Steam in the weeks following the release of the Netflix series, and now it looks like Dante and company are dominating publisher Capcom’s sales figures for the first quarter of 2025 (which ran from the start of April 2025 to the end of June 2025). Capcom reports that 2019’s Devil May Cry 5 was the highest-selling Capcom game in that period at over 1.7 million units, beating out no less than three entries in the Resident Evil series.
Capcom's Best-Selling Games of Q1 2025 (April-June 2025)
- Devil May Cry 5 - 1.7 million (10.512 million lifetime sales)
- Resident Evil Village - 923,000 (12.229 million lifetime sales)
- Resident Evil 4 - 706,000 (10.621 million lifetime sales)
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - 635,000 (15,425 million lifetime sales)
- Devil May Cry HD Collection - 594,000 (2.765 million lifetime sales)
- Street Fighter 6 - 538,000 (5.212 million lifetime sales)

- Monster Hunter Wilds - 477,000 (10.585 million lifetime sales)
- Monster Hunter Rise - 389,000 (17.564 million lifetime sales)
Ranking in fifth place was Devil May Cry HD Collection, an updated compilation of the first three Devil May Cry games, at 594,000 reported sales for the first quarter of 2025. Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, itself an updated release of 2008’s Devil May Cry 4 that added new playable characters like Vergil, Lady, and Trish to the mix, came in seventh place at 495,000 sales.
So far, there is no word on any new Devil May Cry games in development, though original series creator Hideki Kamiya has recently expressed interest in remaking the first game once he is finished with the long-awaited Okami sequel. There have also been rumors of a Devil May Cry 3 remake, though this too is just the subject of rumor and speculation at this time. What is clear from these recent sales figures is that Devil May Cry is getting more popular, thanks in part to the hit Netflix series.

Prepare to get downright demonic with this signature blend of high-octane stylized action and otherworldly & original characters the series is known for. Director Hideaki Itsuno and the core team have returned to create the most insane, technically advanced and utterly unmissable action experience of this generation!
The threat of demonic power has returned to menace the world once again in Devil May Cry 5. The invasion begins when the seeds of a “demon tree” take root in Red Grave City. As this hellish incursion starts to take over the city, a young demon hunter Nero, arrives with his partner Nico in their “Devil May Cry” motorhome. Finding himself without the use of his right arm, Nero enlists Nico, a self-professed weapons artist, to design a variety of unique mechanical Devil Breaker arms to give him extra powers to take on evil demons such as the blood sucking flying Empusa and giant colossus enemy Goliath.
